… So , What is Next for Right to Work ?? [#new target]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,December 9th,2016

.. how about Ohio ?? ..

.. my native state would be nice , for sure . Ohio is , however , an initiative / referendum state . Any move to put through a right – to – work law in Ohio would be immediately under attack on the ballot . But ….

.. put it into the state budget . Ohio has a constitutional quirk , even with the initiative / referendum process . Any issue that is included in the state budget is , however , NOT subject to an initiative . So , then , it would be blocked …

.. anywhere else ?? …

.. [h/t — m.NationalReview.com]..
.. [link] to the news article ..

.. Missouri is one . Missouri is highly likely to have a GOP governor , once Jay Nixon and his sorry carcus are gone . Peter Kinder , the current LG , would be an excellent candidate . Also , the Missouri GOP has nearly a 3/5ths majority in the legislature , enough to override any possible veto ..

.. West Virginia — the GOP controls both houses of the Legislature , but not the Governor ‘s chair . Not yet , at least . That is yet to come …

— [update] — Wisconsin has adopted its Right – to – Work bill , and Gov. Scott Walker has signed the bill into law , at last , making the Badger State the 25th state with a Right – to – Work law . Yeah !! …

.. after elections next year , Missouri should become state # 26 . LG Peter Kinder [R]  is a strong favourite for the Governor ‘  s race . He has no major opposition in  the GOP  primary , and  is [so far] the strong favourite in the general election race . Presuming he  wins ,  Kinder would  very strongly  and  likely sign the Right to Work bill into law ….

… Earth to POTUS [#Britain and the E.U.]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,June 14th,2016

.. the question of whether the U.K. [Great Britain] remains in the E.U. or not is up to the citizens of the U.K. to decide . That question appears to be headed to a referendum in the U.K. sometime in the year 2017 ..

.. however , POTUS seems not to get the picture ..

.. it is their business , and not ours , to make that decision . Might I have an opinion ? yes , I likely will . But I would prefer to leave the question to my fellow bloggers in the U.K. [and in the E.U.] to make that decision . It is not for me to interfere ..

.. [h/t — m.NationalReview.com]..
.. [link] to the blog post ..

.. unfortunately His Lordship has chosen to stick both feet into his mouth . He has decided to wade into the membership question , when , to be honest , discretion would be the better part of valour for us here in the U.S. to not interfere ..

… What Is POTUS Thinking ?? [#EU referendum][#U.K.]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,April 29th,2016

.. what is he thinking , indeed ..

.. POTUS Is currently on an international TRIP TO THe Middle East , and then on to Britain . While he is there , he has a tendency to offer up opinions . However , those opinions will likely not be either very well liked or very well received by his hosts ..

.. the E.U. stay or go referendum question in Great Britain is a very real case in point . The U.K. was a late entry into the E.U. . France itself , in particular was not thrilled with the idea . The U.k. has always been somewhat ambivalent towards the E.U. . So , any outsider sticking their nose into their business is not likely to be well received . POTUS ‘ actions via this question are just that way ..

.. [h/t — Newsmax.com]..
.. [link] to the blog post ..

.. POTUS thinks that the U.K. should stay in the E.U. . The U.K.i.p. , In patrticular , is not thrilled with POTUS shooting off his mouth . U.K.I.P. , as its name shows , does not want the U.K. to remain in the E.U. not one minute longer . So POTUS ‘ intervention is not wanted nor desired . They are sure that the referendum question and the entire subject aree the U.K. ‘ s business and not that of the United States . .

… Marijuana is Still Illegal [#no backdoor legalization]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,March 3rd,2016

.. marijuana is still illegal in Ohio . It always has been , and likely always will be …

.. somehow , I do not think that the interest groups would be dumb enough to put it on the 2016 general election ballot . You want to give an extra kick in the butt to conservative and GOP turnout at the polls ?? …

.. [h/t — CBSSeattle.com]..

.. be dumb enough to work to put it on the November 2016 ballot . The pro – family groups will view it as manna from heaven …

… An Interesting Spectacle in Washington State [#school funding case]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,January 8th,2015

.. yeah , a school fundcing case battle ..

.. but , for once , even the DemoCraps are pissed at the State Supreme Court . I do not blame them …

.. they are learning that there is a cost to the fantasyland dreams of the Supremes . Especially when there Is a real – world impact on the cost of programs that they want , and the voters ‘ willingness to pay for them …

.. [h/t — JonathanTurley.org]..
.. [link] to the blog entry …

.. fortunately for Washington state , unlike many states in this situation , they have the initiative and referendum method of petitions . If the voters get too pissed , then Washington state government could be turned upside down in order to rein in the State Supreme Court …

.. it also is a campaign issue , whether the Justices are appointed or elected . It is the case because then the folks responsible for the appointments or elections can be held responsible for their actions …

.. — update — my home state of Ohio went through this about 20 years ago . Thankfully , the great mass of the legislature [mostly GOP , but a fair # of Dems] finally had enough of the State Supreme Court ‘ s antics . The activist justices either retired , or were ” retired ” in  an election . Their activist ruling was a chief issue in their undoing ..

.. Also , Ohio is an initiative / rererendum state . Even if the State Supreme Court had wanted to impose a sweeping mandate on the legislature , the voters would have rebelled , and placed an initiative on the ballot to repeal their activist stunt . That is , if  the legislature did not impeach and remove the justices first …

… Does Scotland Really Want Independence ?? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,May 15th,2014

.. I believe that it does .

.. but , will it vote for independence (in a referendum vote , this September) ? … I do not know , yet ..

.. a sizable minority will vote yes , no matter what . But , a majority ?? … that remains to be seen …

… the DemoCraps in Colorado have a Death Wish …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,April 23rd,2014

.. terrific coverage by Aaron Gardiner , blogging over at RedState .com …

.. [h/t — RedState]..

.. [link] to the blog story ..

.. what it is was that the Colorado state Senate DemoCraps were trying to move legislation that was just about the most pro – Death legislation in the country . It was just about as bad as the proposed Freedom of Choice Act in Congress , or that other pro – Death woosy in New York state that Andrew Cuomo wanted , but did not get . They keep on trying to push this stuff , but they keep failing ..

.. the Dems in the Colorado state Senate have about a one – vote majority , @ 18 to 17 . This also came about with the two recall elections that booted out DemoCraps , and put in Republicans . Now , this crowd wanted to put through this pro – Death bill , basically another Freedom of Choice Act ..

.. it would have allowed any woman , of any age [including minors] to get an abortion , at any time , at any stage in her pregnancy . How much more pro – Death is that ? Plenty . the Colorado state House may well have passed it , and Governor John Hickenweenie probably would have signed it …

.. fortunately , it has failed …. for now …

.. two other good things about Colorado : …

.. the whole crew : including Hickenweenie , are up this fall . The Republicans in the state are at fever pitch . The Dems may show up , and they may not . Hickenweenie is vulnerable . Mark Udall is even more vulnerable . Even better , the Dems only control the Colorado legislature by a few seats .You get enough of an effort , and out they all go …

.. Colorado is a referendum / initiative state …. it is not easy to get one on the ballot , however . If those dummies ever put a bill like this through , it can be challenged at the ballot box . Even better yet , it can be forced to a special election , where the numbers could well be even better in the GOP ‘ s favour …

.. more to come , undoubtedly ..

… More on the Mozilla Boycott …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,April 10th,2014

.. how did people find out about the campaign contribution ?

.. these days , disclosure is very public , and is very rapid . Once a campaign [issue or candidate] discloses the contribution to the relevant body [state or federal] , it is publshed on the Internet . Also , other sites specialize in organizing the data [federally ,  from the Federal Elections Commission] , so , these days , it comes out pretty darned quick ….

.. [h/t — HotAir]..

.. [link] to the article / news report …

.. also , the problem is these days , is what do people do with that information . That is the big problem . What has happened with Mozilla and Brendan Eich is symbolic of what can happen these days … but mostly at the state level . It has not spread to the federal level , at least openly , not as of yet . it does happen , but it is spoaradic ….

.. People have to be responsible with the disclosure of this kind of information , and not misuse it … otherwise , threshhold could change , or the disclosure could end up going away ….

… Mozilla Warfare …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,April 8th,2014

.. since when does a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness give people the right to enforce a ” litmus test ” for professional inclusion at an employer ? …

.. [h/t — NationalReview]..

.. [link] and [link2] to Maggie Gallagher ‘ s columns on the subject …

..  people have a right to their private lives and their personal freedoms . That includes the right and reason to associate with both people and causes with whom they choose to support … both with their time , as well as with their money . People also have a right to keep that private life separate from their professional life , and to not be intimidated by others …

.. It is also not the right of others not to intimidate people who choose to exercise such freedoms by abuse of the disclosure requirements of campaign contribution laws to act to intimidate others . Such misuse of the law is gross and outrageous …

… I Hope Someone Mounts a Ballot Issue [Religious Freedom]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Saturday,March 8th,2014

.. on the Religious Freedom Bill that was subject to a veto by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer this week .

.. obviously , it would have to be in an initiative / referendum state . There are only so many of those around . Hopefully , more than one will be mounted , so that the loonie left cannot concentrate their fire on only one state .

.. Hopefully , Arizona is one of them . Arizona is an initiative / referendum state , so it could have a ballot issue there . Do not leave it out there on the branch of a tree ; have other states mount the issue . Also , preferrably , have one or more big states on the line . Thankfully , my home state [Ohio] is one of them . It would be a terrific driver of turnout for Christians , conservatives , and Tea Partiers .

.. the question is when ? Not this year ; it is too late in the year to mount an initiative battle . Putting it on either the primary or general election ballot next year [2015] ? Maybe … it depends on what kind of turnout that you want … 2016 is a Presidential year . The turnout will be sky – high …. but of who ?

.. It is a good question , but one that deserves the time of day . People deserve to know , openly , that they have their religious freedom to protect themselves from activist gays and lesbians who seek to drive devout Christian believers and their businesses from the public sphere …

… Do Not Legalize Marijuana ! …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,February 20th,2014

.. I am from Ohio . I live in Northeast Ohio , in the west suburbs of Cleveland . It is my understanding that there are efforts underway to either legalize medical marijuana , or to legalize the damn thing outright . It will take awhile .

.. Ohio is an Initiative / Referendum State . To circulate the petition , the petition group has to get the approval for the wording of the proposal from the Secretary of State (chief elections officer) and / or [usually] the Attorney General . It will definitely require the A.G.’s signoff on something like this . It will take some time , but they cannot delay it forever .

.. So , Ohio will face a choice . Either legalize medical marijuana , or legalize it outright . I hope the voters of this state do not do either one . Marijuana is an entry – level drug . There is good reason that it is a Schedule 1 federal narcotic . Which reminds me , under federal law , possession , sale , distribution , growing , or use of Marijuana is grade A1 I-L-L-E-G-A-L .

.. Unfortunately , right now , the dumbbells in Fantasyland by the Potomac are playing around with this law , just like they are playing around with ObamaCrapCare . It would help , for once , that they would enforce the body of law , as a whole …
