… the Judiciary has to Step In …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,October 12th,2012

… I am not a favourite of Congress ‘ overstepping its bounds , or its powers . However  , it does have legitimate tasks to do , folks …

… One is the making of our laws . That one is a no – brainer …

… The next is oversight . Yes , within certain bounds , respecting the separation of powers . But , they do need to investigate what is going on in the executive department(s) [the cabinet agencies] of government . The President , the Presidency , and the Executive Office of the President (the E.O.P.) are covered by claims (yes , legit ones) of executive privilege . The cabinet agencies are not …

… The other is investigation , in particular , the investigation of wrongdoing . They have a need – to – know , because if laws need to be created , changed , or abolished , Congress does have a need for the info , within the same bounds , as for oversight . Congress ‘ job is not to prosecute lawbreakers , as much as committee chairman fashion themselves as “prosecutors.”  They are not , they are congresscritters ,  pure and simple …

… the Department of Injustice under the recent Democratic administrations (both Clinton and Obama) have had to deal with Congressional majorities of both parties . They should pick and choose which parties ‘ subpoenas they  respect…

… If there is a legitimate reason to block or quash a subpoena , then the DofIj should act to do so . If not , then they should act to enforce the subpoena promptly , and without delay …

… the ObamaCraps do not like the Hot Seat …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,October 11th,2012

ABC correspondent Jake Tapper during a prime t...

Jake Tapper

… it is getting to be abundantly obvious that the Obama Administration does not like being on the ” hot seat . ” A big part of being in political office is being accountable for one ‘ s actions . These days , that is being increasingly hard to do. Today ‘ s White House Press Briefing is a case in point …

… besides it being the first full scale Press Briefing in a couple of weeks …

… ABC ‘ s chief White House correspondent , Jake Tapper , had the floor , and he went on the attack  …

{info , Breitbart Media , Big Government}

TAPPER: Lieutenant Colonel Wood and Eric Nordstrom, the former regional security officer, have both suggested that there were efforts from the U.S. embassy in Libya to have more security, and the State Department — State Department officials wouldn’t let it happen. Why? Why didn’t the State Department listen to these men on the ground in Libya who wanted there to be more security?

CARNEY: Jake, as I said, there is no question that the result of what happened in Benghazi is not acceptable. Four Americans killed is not an acceptable situation, and that is why the president moved so quickly to ensure that an investigation was launched to bring the perpetrators to justice, the killers to justice, and a review was launched at the State Department to look at our security posture at the Bengali — I mean, not Bengali — at the Benghazi facility and elsewhere.

You know, those matters are under investigation. They are also being discussed in a public hearing on Capitol Hill today by the individuals and officials, both career and otherwise, who know the specifics of that. What I can tell you is what the president’s interest is in. He is very interested in bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring that we find out what happened, why it happened and taking steps to ensure that it never happens again.

TAPPER: Well, it’s been roughly a month. You have absolutely no idea why it happened? You don’t know why the State Department — (inaudible)?

CARNEY: Well, I think — I think, as we’re hearing on Capitol Hill today, we have learned a great deal as this investigation has progressed, and we have been very clear about what we have known at different stages of this process over the last several weeks and what we have yet to learn and the fact that at each stage, the investigation continues, and more facts may be developed that change our understanding of what happened. State Department officials are on Capitol Hill today being very clear about what we know now based on the several weeks of investigation that have taken place. They are also making clear that the investigation continues and that the Accountability Review Board that is looking into the issues of diplomatic security is continuing its work. You know, I’m not prepared to preview the results of an investigation that — or a review that have — that are not yet complete or to second-guess what the experts in the field are going to conclude.

… Remember the name : Smith …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,October 10th,2012

… yea ,  the name  , Smith . Tom Smith …

… he is a farmer and businessman from western PA , and it appears that he is making it a race in the US

Tom Smith , the challenger in a hurry , along with Mr Empty Suit

Senate contest against another ” empty suit , ” current US Senator Bob Casey , Jr . …

… My opinion of Jr. is he played the name game , and played it well , but he is an even bigger empty suit , er , chair , than the President . Smith has been running some dandy commercials throughout the state , while Mr. Empty Suit is just going up on TV now , and only in the Philadelphia area market(s)

… it seems POTUS and his campaign team need to develop a sense of humor .  in addition , they need to develop a new campaign theme and message . Accusing one ‘ s opponent of being a liar after  a debate is not the best tack to take . and attacking them with Big Bird is even worse . However , the Republican National Committee came up with a real funny rejoinder to counter …

… a Potential Game Changer in Missouri ? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,October 10th,2012

… i repeat ,  it is a potential game changer …

… it appears Sen Claire McCaskill and her husband , Joseph Shepard    , got caught making up to nearly $39 million in revenue from public housing subsidy contracts , and did not disclose it . Not on her U S Senate financial disclosure form(s) . Most possibly , not even on their tax returns . How many ways other than “Six Ways from Sunday” can you say stupid . Even worse , corrupt . Even more of a problem , criminal …

… Forget about her Senate financial disclosure forms . How about releasing the relevant years of federal income tax returns . Both of them are in very deep trouble . Not to mention her campaign against Todd Akin …

… Yea , I know , Akin stuck his foot waaaay into his mouth . But Missouri is in the heart of the Bible Belt , folks . Their tolerance for corruption is far lower than that of an idiot sticking his foot in his mouth …

… This election is back in the tossup category . It may even be potentially be within reach for Akin , if he can prosecute the argument adequately …

… Grading the First Debate — Barack Obama …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,October 8th,2012

… on Barack Obama …

… on the Facts …  D + the President was very , very weak on the facts . talking points are very , very obvious , and very numerous . they are too easy to see coming . at least , Mr. President , come up with a fresh approach ,  and a fresh package …  and some new material …

… on Style … F … Give one ‘s opponent the dignity and respect that one is due on this stage . Cut out the smirks , and do not stare down , unless  it is for good reason , such  as taking notes . In addition , POTUS , you were in a debate hall , not a law school lecture hall

…  on Presentation … D – … one still needs to inform in a debate , and even to entertain , even a little …

… overall grade — D –

… it looks as if  he will win the first triple crown in baseball in 45 years (since 1967) …

… for the uninitiated , the Triple Crown , in baseball , is winning the batting average title , the home run title , and the runs batted in title , all in the same season . It also happens if there is a tie for the title in one of the categories …

… once again , bravo , and a job well done …

… the State of the Race …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,October 4th,2012

… contrary to most polls , i believe that the Presidential race is pretty much even …

… the big problem for the President , is that his support continues to slowly slip to between 45 to 46 to 47 percent …

… which , for the incumbent , is never good …

… the challenger (mitt romney) is also at about 46 to 47  percent , with about 6 to 8 percent undecided …

… the big question is , though , that there is a small percent of both candidates ‘  support that is also soft …

… that could be anywhere from 3 to 5 percent ,  each , by my guess …

…. when or if the election breaks , in one direction or the other , one of them just might lose some of their support that they thought that they might have had . and the margin might end up different than anyone might have thought ….

…. no predictions , not now . i will be going through the electoral college , state by state , including any other significant race in that state . after that , then i will make a prediction ….

… he  has pg Steve Nash (future hall of famer {easiest call in the book}) to pair with Kobe in the backcourt . Nash has lost just a little bit , but not that much … those two will fit together seemlessly…

… the frontcourt , however , is a different story… there is only one ball , and Howard will demand his share of it . Pao Gasol , not as much …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,August 30th,2012

… i am absolutely amazed , these days , how many of these looney left DemoCrap “contributors” and “experts” pervert themselves , and peg themselves to the party line . They set themselves up to be humiliated , when the “so – called” facts turn out to be “nothing” at all . they set aside their experience , their instincts , and their informed judgement , just to follow a “party line” that is desired by someone else . Why do these people act and desire to look like fools . Why ? They look like idiots , morons ,  or worse …

… Informed Commentary has to do better . The media has to hold these “so called” experts to a higher standard . Most of all , they need to cut the “Gordion Knot” so that they are getting more proper expert commentary , not the party line from a puppet …

… the state of the 2012 race …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,August 28th,2012

… and now [for me] , it begins …

… Wisconsin and Michigan are in play ? …

… yea , believe it ! …

… both of these two state have become far more “red” than one might think . both of them have legislatures with both chambres run by the GOP (WS will again in its State Senate, after the general election) . Both have very conservative Republican Governors (Scott Walker in Wisconsin , Rich Snyder in Michigan) , and both have State Supreme Courts that are at least marginally or better conservative , and are getting better …

… Will Romney / Ryan carry one , or both ? …

… Good Question ? …

… What do I think ? …

… I believe that Romney / Ryan will carry one of them , most likely Wisconsion . It is the more redder of the two . Walker is more proven vote – getter , and the union(s) in his state have largely ” shot their wad . ” they may want to spend and do more , but how much more ? their financial foundation has been badly undermined , and the AFL-CIO can only spend so much money in so many places , as do the national unions . they have to choose their targets carefully , and Michigan is , for them , far easier to defend .

… However , the population base in and around Detroit (and Wayne Cty) has severly shrunk . Michigan actually lost population (i think) in the last census . Indiana , Ohio , & Illinois grew . not Michigan.

… carrying both Wisconsin & Michigan might be asking a bit much … but it is possible … as is Pennsylvania , Colorado , New Mexico , Iowa , Virginia , North Carolina , & Florida … and , most of all , my home state , Ohio .

… Make Some Sense …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,August 27th,2012

… just jamming more and more money into the hands of banks (who themselves are afraid {bleepless} to lend anything to anyone) is not going to do any good …

… no , not QE 3 , not QE 4 , or anything else like that …

… some sensible steps to encourage business are in order …

first , put more money in the hands of taxpayers . it is their money , not the government ‘ s . they know how they want to use it , save it , spend it , or invest it better than the government can …

second , a graduated and scaled capital gains tax cut is in order . short – term cap gains should have some kind of small penalty rate , to send the signal that we do not encourage short – term holdings , or speculation . Intermediate – term gains should be more favoured , with a gradually lower rate , and longer – term cap gains should be most – favoured , with as low a tax rate as possible , preferrably 0% …

third , repeal Dodd – Frank . it does nothing to solve the problems with the banks , it creates needless bureacracy , and creates cost(s) for all in the system that are unneccessary …

fourth , modify or repeal Sarbanes – Oxley .. We should be encouraging share listings and venture capital startups , not harassing them with a lot of headaches …

… current law , pre – Sarbox , is enough of a deterrent [tuned to current tech] to the bad guys and gals …

…Ohio Politics…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,August 27th,2012

… courtesy of a Columbus Dispatch poll …

… the Presidential Race …

… Mitt Romney — 45 % ,

Barack Obama — 45 % ;

… 10 % undecided …

… the Senate Race …

Josh Mandel — 44 %

Sherrod Brown — 44 %

… 12 % undecided …

… What do I think ? …

… the poll itself is a bit odd , done by mail . however , the statistical sample is still sound …

… basically , the sample is valid , but to be taken with a grain of salt …

… the Ohio Poll is a valid poll , with a long past history , although i do not see the statistical breakdown …

… it is notorious for having a sample of more Ds than Rs , and Is than either Rs or Ds …

… in political terms …

[Senate Race , first]

Sherrod Brown is in a fair bit of trouble . if he is tied , with Mandel , at this point in the race , given the ad war , he has an uphill climb to survive for another term . Brown needs , among other things , to carry NE Ohio by a wide margin , and not lose central Ohio . Central Ohio means not just Franklin County , but the surrounding counties (the entire group) . they are just large enough to aid Mandel , and innoculate him from a likely narrow loss in Franklin County .

NEOhio is another matter  . Brown resides in the city of Avon (in Lorain County)  , and has for some time . however , he is not native to this part of the state . Mandel is from the NE , and is from the city of Lyndhurst , on the east side of Cuyahoga County .

Brown needs a big margin in Cuyahoga County , and he just may not get it . Mandel is a Republican , but he is a retired Marine , and he is also of the jewish faith . given the feelings in the jewish community this time around , it should help Mandel narrow his loss of Cuyahoga County , and “goose” his margins in the surrounding republican areas …

Brown has an added handicap . His last name . Traditionally , the surname of Brown is golden in Ohio politics . However , Sherrod has lost with it . He lost when running for re – election for Secretary of State (Chief Elections Officer) , and , now he is in danger again …

… can lightening strike twice ?? …

[the Presidential Race]

this one is far more clear cut . POTUS is in big trouble . given the continuation of his solid performance into the fall , I believe Mitt Romney will carry Ohio …

… i am profroundly shocked and saddened at what has happened …

… also , i am in astonishment and great anger at what can cause a supposedly intelligent young man , accomplished in his academic studies , albeit a lonely fellow , to turn into a mass murderer . He moved with random wanton ruthlessness to take the lives of innocents , and forever the lives of others …
