… What Do I think [Obama and Amnesty] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,April 11th,2014

.. unless a massive screwup occurs , the GOP will control both Houses of Congress after the November elections …

.. [-] the House — I believe that the GOP will add seats . How many ? I am not sure on that one , yet . it is too early to tell . My best guess is around 8 to 10 to 12 seats . That would not be too bad , because that would boost the GOP majority to about 245 seats . A healthy and manageable majority , no doubt …

.. could it be more , yes . but I doubt it …

.. [-] the Senate — at the rate things are going , the GOP is going to have a healthy majority , of al least 52 seats . I am thinking that it could be much more . If this election is a wave , somewhat like 2010 , it will be the Senate races that are affected the most , and give the GOP pickups that no one would expect , like Oregon (which I expect) and Minnesota (which I do not)…

.. it matters , because of what is about to follow …

.. [h/t — TruthRevolt]..
.. [link] to the blog post …

.. Obama is going to grant ” amnesty ” by executive action after the election before the new congress takes office . Yes , it does matter . I will tell you why …

.. he can legally relieve illegals of the criminal offense , being in the country illegally . POTUS can grant pardons , clemency , and reprieves . It is in the U.S. Constitution , and there is nothing that anyone can do about it …

.. however , he cannot administratively change the law to grant those illegals citizenship . He may want to , and may even try to do so . I do not believe that he has the legal authority to change the immigration law . No president does . It is covered by separation of powers , among other things . He may well still try , though . That is where the change in Congress matters …

.. if and when he does , he will trigger impeachment proceedings . He will also just about cook the DemoCraps ‘ goose in 2016 . Back to that some other time . The House Judiciary Committee can conduct an impeachment inquiry during the current congress during the lame duck session . Committee proceedings can continue . Especially if he does a jackhole  stunt like this . I half expect him to try to do so , especially now .

.. In addition , it would go to the D.C. Appeals Court , which , unfortunately , has been stacked with his cronies . However , the U.S. Supreme Court has not . The Conservatives would not stand for this abuse of power . Neither would Anthony Kennedy . Neither I believe would Steven Breyer . I doubt the liberals would , either , but given the polarization , who knows . Obama ‘ s admin action will be struck down …

.. Rememer , he can relieve illegals of the criminal act . He can also stop deportations . That one would create a huge uproar , all by itself . However , he cannot change immigration law , all by himself , as much as he would like to do so . Even if he would try , his act would be struck down at lightening speed by the courts . They would not dilly – dally around , taking months . They would take maybe a few weeks , at most …

… An interesting Take on Florida 13 …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,March 20th,2014

.. Adam Smith is the Tampa Times political editor . Remember , Tampa is Hillsborough County , right next door to Pinellas County (Saint Petersburg) …

.. from what I can tell , this guy is reasonable , and knows his stuff . I believe that he is a moderate Democrat by philosophy , so he is not going to blow smoke up anyone ‘ s rear end , especially a Republican …

.. from this special , Obama is not the only unpopular person in the District . Current Florida Governor Rick Scott is not exactly at the top of anyone ‘ s political dance card . Come the fall , I figure that nobody is eager to want to see either one of them . However , Scott ‘ s problem is manageable ; Obama ‘ s is not .

.. Obama is in serious trouble . He is likely to be facing a fully Republican congress next year , if my hunch is right …

.. [h/t — TambaBay] ..

..  [link] to Adam Smith ‘  s column …

If I’m a Democratic House member in any competitive district in America or a Democratic incumbent senator up for re-election this year in a moderate-to-conservative state like North Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado, Alaska or Louisiana, I’m waking up more than a little anxious about what happened in Pinellas County on Tuesday.

In Alex Sink, Democrats had a better-funded, well-known nominee who ran a strong campaign against a little-known, second- or third-tier Republican who ran an often wobbly race in a district Barack Obama won twice. Outside Republican groups — much more so than the under-funded Jolly campaign — hung the Affordable Care Act and President Obama on Sink.

It worked.

Sink and Jolly both tried to argue repeatedly that the race to succeed the late C.W. Bill Young had more to do with local politics than it did national. Nonsense.

More than $12 million spent on hundreds of TV ads and Lord knows how many direct mail fliers weren’t talking about Pinellas recreation fees and bus routes. They were flooding Pinellas residents with mostly negative attacks about Obamacare and misleading charges about why Sink or Jolly should not be trusted on Medicare and/or Social Security.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus had every reason to gloat Tuesday night over Rep.-elect Jolly.

“His victory shows that voters are looking for representatives who will fight to end the disaster of Obamacare, to get Washington to spend our money responsibly, and to put power in the hands of families and individuals,” Priebus said. “In November, voters all across the country will have the chance to send the same message that Pinellas County voters have sent: Democrats’ policies are not working for America.”

Don’t be surprised to see vulnerable Democrats across the country start distancing themselves from health care reform in a way that Sink did not.

Nobody seriously expected Democrats to win back a majority in the U.S. House in November, but Sink’s loss in a winnable swing district makes Democrats’ hold on the U.S. Senate majority look more tenuous than before the special election.

Obama at this point looks like a drag for Democrats in November, just as he consistently has been for Sink.

Four years ago, she narrowly lost a campaign for governor in a tough political climate against a little-known, first-time candidate who cast her as an Obama/Obamacare cheerleader.

This time, she jumped into the race on the heels of a federal government shutdown that seemed likely to seriously damage the Republican brand. Instead, the Obamacare rollout debacle shifted the landscape entirely, and Sink eventually found herself facing another little-known Republican casting her as an Obama/Obamacare cheerleader in a tough political climate.

One big difference between the two Sink races? This time she has little to apologize for. She ran a hyper-disciplined campaign with a far more robust get-out-the-vote effort than Republicans. One can wonder, though, why Democrats waited until after the Republican primary in January to start criticizing the other side. That was the biggest Republican fear.

The state GOP has every reason to cheer its win in a race that early on looked like Sink’s to lose. But looking at how effective the Democrats’ once-nonexistent absentee ballot program has become ought to make them nervous.

A special election always promised to be tough for Democrats. Given the president’s approval ratings, November is likely to be challenging, too, but if Sink opts to run again she at least could be assured a stronger Democratic turnout.

On the other hand, Roll Call has a statistic likely to give the former banking executive pause about taking on Jolly a second time: So far this century, 85 percent of congressional special-election winners win at least two subsequent general elections.

Two invisible political players stand out in this race: Obama and Gov. Rick Scott. Both sides wanted them as far away from Pinellas County as possible.

In their stead, Bill Clinton starred in robocalls for Sink, and Jeb Bush starred in TV ads and mailers for Jolly. Maybe that’s yet another sign that Clinton and Bush remain the most formidable names in politics.

Adam C. Smith can be reached at asmith@tampabay.com.

President Obama’s foreign policy is based on fantasy

By , Published: March 2

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in whichthe tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he said, of Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine, “It’s a 19th century act in the 21st century.”

That’s a nice thought, and we all know what he means. A country’s standing is no longer measured in throw-weight or battalions. The world is too interconnected to break into blocs. A small country that plugs into cyberspace can deliver more prosperity to its people (think Singapore or Estonia) than a giant with natural resources and standing armies.

Unfortunately, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not received the memo on 21st-century behavior. Neither has China’s president, Xi Jinping, who is engaging in gunboat diplomacy against Japan and the weaker nations of Southeast Asia. Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is waging a very 20th-century war against his own people, sending helicopters to drop exploding barrels full of screws, nails and other shrapnel onto apartment buildings where families cower in basements. These men will not be deterred by the disapproval of their peers, the weight of world opinion or even disinvestment by Silicon Valley companies. They are concerned primarily with maintaining their holds on power.

Mr. Obama is not responsible for their misbehavior. But he does, or could, play a leading role in structuring the costs and benefits they must consider before acting. The model for Mr. Putin’s occupation of Crimea was his incursion into Georgia in 2008, when George W. Bush was president. Mr. Putin paid no price for that action; in fact, with parts of Georgia still under Russia’s control, he was permitted to host a Winter Olympics just around the corner. China has bullied the Philippines and unilaterally staked claims to wide swaths of international air space and sea lanes as it continues a rapid and technologically impressive military buildup. Arguably, it has paid a price in the nervousness of its neighbors, who are desperate for the United States to play a balancing role in the region. But none of those neighbors feel confident that the United States can be counted on. Since the Syrian dictator crossed Mr. Obama’s red line with a chemical weapons attack that killed 1,400 civilians, the dictator’s military and diplomatic position has steadily strengthened.

The urge to pull back — to concentrate on what Mr. Obama calls “nation-building at home” — is nothing new, as former ambassador Stephen Sestanovich recounts in his illuminating history of U.S. foreign policy, “Maximalist.” There were similar retrenchments after the Korea and Vietnam wars and when the Soviet Union crumbled. But the United States discovered each time that the world became a more dangerous place without its leadership and that disorder in the world could threaten U.S. prosperity. Each period of retrenchment was followed by more active (though not always wiser) policy. Today Mr. Obama has plenty of company in his impulse, within both parties and as reflected by public opinion. But he’s also in part responsible for the national mood: If a president doesn’t make the case for global engagement, no one else effectively can.

The White House often responds by accusing critics of being warmongers who want American “boots on the ground” all over the world and have yet to learn the lessons of Iraq. So let’s stipulate: We don’t want U.S. troops in Syria, and we don’t want U.S. troops in Crimea. A great power can become overextended, and if its economy falters, so will its ability to lead. None of this is simple.

But it’s also true that, as long as some leaders play by what Mr. Kerry dismisses as 19th-century rules, the United States can’t pretend that the only game is in another arena altogether. Military strength, trustworthiness as an ally, staying power in difficult corners of the world such as Afghanistan — these still matter, much as we might wish they did not. While the United States has been retrenching, the tide of democracy in the world, which once seemed inexorable, has been receding. In the long run, that’s harmful to U.S. national security, too.

As Mr. Putin ponders whether to advance further — into eastern Ukraine, say — he will measure the seriousness of U.S. and allied actions, not their statements. China, pondering its next steps in the East China Sea, will do the same. Sadly, that’s the nature of the century we’re living in.

… Charles Krauthammer has it Right [ObamaCrapCare changes] …

.. What His Lordship [Obama] is doing is stuff that you find in a banana republic …

He behaves as if he is the Lord of the manor , and we are the serfs , ones that are there to do his bidding at his beck and call . Also , he is making substantial changes in the ObamaCrapCare law . Those changes are not just simple administrative ” adjustments , ” but substantive changes , requiring the consent of Congress . POTUS should submit those changes he wants , and then re – open the bill .

.. That , however , is the problem . Obama does not want to legalistically re-open his signature legislative achivement . If he does , then it could really be katy – bar – the – door on what gets changed ….

… Wow ! KY Woman Confronts B.H.O. About Losing Her Plan & Her Son’s Doctor Due to ObamaCrapCare (Video) …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,February 5th,2014

This was brutal.
During a Friday Google+ Q&A session broadcast on YouTube, President Barack Obama was confronted by a Kentucky mother who says she lost her health care plan and her son’s medical specialist due to Obamacare.

“I’m probably not the only one whose had really a panicked experience lately trying to figure out if my 10-year-old son can continue with his specialist or not. I know that I can’t keep my plan — which I liked — but as I’m trying to figure out what to do going forward, I’ve spent weeks with days on the phone getting confidently delivered wrong answers, conflicting information.”

Obama did not have any explanation for the complete horror he’s put this woman through.

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,January 6th,2014

… 5 years ago , the war in Iraq was won …

.. 3 years ago , our country was in  position to conclude a continuing agreement with Iraq . All it required was for His Lordship and VPOTUS to conclude what is known as a Status of Forces Agreement [S.O.F.A.] . It covers how U.S. forces are governed and treated legally , generally while in a so – called friendly country , especially in an Allied nation . It is not all that difficult . But , Nooooooo ….

.. the other night , the Obama administration announced two big changes to Obamacare, for people who have seen their individual-market insurance plans canceled this year: They won’t have to comply with the individual mandate, meaning they can go without insurance and not pay the not-insubstantial fine (1 percent of their income, basically); and if they do want insurance, they can buy a “catastrophic” plan on the exchanges, which is cheaper than any of the other plans available.

..  This will make life easier , in the short term , for some number of Americans — millions have seen their plans canceled, though the White House suggests just half a million of them still haven’t signed up for new plans, gotten Medicaid, or enrolled in an exchange plan .

.. These changes could be “a very big problem for the law.” Here is why :

[-] It violates our system of governance — Presidents are not dictators . They do not have the right to make these kind of changes at a whim .

[-] Lack of Congressional Oversight — for the obvious reasons .

[-] The way it treats the uninsured is unfair and potentially politically unsustainable.

Now that the law’s requirements have been significantly weakened for people who did have insurance in 2013, it’s going to be hard to stand by them for people who didn’t.

In theory, this does reflect one of the principles of how the health-insurance market works: Under pre-Obamacare law, consumers were guaranteed the right to renew their policies (with some cost changes, of course). If you were uninsured, on the other hand, you could have a much harder time finding coverage on the individual market — which is why, for instance, people are allowed to maintain employer coverage for a certain period of time after leaving a job. But Obamacare is supposed to be about expanding coverage, and the inequities this change will create can be really problematic.

More simply, of course, people whose plans have been canceled will now simply be able to go without insurance, period, at no cost. People who were uninsured in 2012, meanwhile, will have to pay the penalty — for now.

[-] The way it treats almost everyone else is unfair: The exchanges have been open for three months now, and plenty of Americans have committed to buy plans that were either more expensive than they want or that they didn’t want in the first place. If people whose individual-market plans have been canceled knew this was going to happen, they could have waited to buy a catastrophic plan, or bought one on the non-exchange market, or gone without insurance entirely.

[-] Adverse selection  — This means people who might otherwise buy insurance — say, middle-aged people with potentially looming health problems — can go without it, and if a serious health-care problem comes up, they can just enroll in the exchanges. Not everyone will take advantage of this, but at the margins, it allows people who might otherwise worry about catastrophic health-care bills to stay out of the exchanges, and ensures some flow of very sick, expensive people into them. Health insurance companies can’t change their rates to take account of that, and that information disconnect is what economists call “adverse selection.” On the margins, it will raise premiums for healthy people on the exchanges, and make insurers more wary of participating.

[-] More adverse selection — The catastrophic plans that the Obama administration will now let anyone with a canceled plan enroll in this year were originally set up for anyone under the age of 30, and for anyone who gets a hardship exemption. Now, they’ll see an influx of people who had their plans canceled, a group that insurers don’t actually know much about — and for whom they haven’t set their premiums.

[-] Even more adverse selection  — The catastrophic-insurance markets and the rest of the exchanges are separate risk pools. Within a given state, individual insurers don’t really have to worry about enrolling too many unhealthy or old people, because of something implemented by Obamacare called “risk adjustment.”

Insurers with sicker groups get compensated, basically, by insurers that enrolled healthier groups. In all, the insurers want healthier and bigger pools, because they can take on more financial risk safely and make more money, but risk adjustment means it’s lot less useful for them to try to attract healthy enrollees.

The Obama administration is now going to alter the parameters for the catastrophic pool and the normal exchange pool in every state. If their claim that just half a million people who are getting hardship exemptions is accurate, this will also just be a marginal adjustment — but still one the insurance industry wasn’t expecting.

[-] Increased confusion — While there are a lot of groups communicating directly with actual enrollees, the information trickling down from a CMS report, filtered through the media, is not going to help Americans make informed decisions about their plans.

… John Podesta should be Fired …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,December 19th,2013

.. you may wonder , why ?

.. when an ass such as this makes comments such as this …

.. in an interview with Politico ‘ s Glen Thrush , Podesta compared the GOP to a ” massive suicidal cult , ” in particular , the Reverend Jim Jones and his crew that committed mass suicide in November of 1978 ..

.. quote from the relevent story text ..

This is not just about providing added muscle to a beleaguered and undermanned  West Wing staff. According to interviews in recent weeks with an array of Obama  insiders and a dozen current and former senior aides, Podesta’s  hire is explicitly meant to shake things up inside the White House. In effect, I  was told, it represents the clearest sign to date of the administration’s  interest in shifting the paradigm of Obama’s presidency through the forceful,  unapologetic and occasionally provocative application of White House power.  Podesta, whose official mandate includes enforcement of numerous executive  orders on emissions and the environment, suggested as much when  he spoke with me earlier this fall about Obama’s team. “They need to focus on  executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy  of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress,” he told me.

[h/t — theweeklystandard.com]

.. [link] — to pictures and video images …

.. Yes , he did just that . Incredibly insensitive , stupid , and moronic . POTUS should have known better , but could have cared less . The propaganda value to the Cuban regime and the apparatchiks is going to be invaluable . Which was part of the point ….

.. Obama could not have cared less …
