… Didn’t Anyone Teach You [Antartica] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,December 29th,2013

.. that going anywhere near a shitload of ice is bound to get you into  trouble .

.. Yes , Antartica can be approched by sea . But , very carefully . Evidenty , the Russians  did not remember that lesson  . one of their research vessels is stuck in Anarctic ice . So far , the vessel is not in any serious danger  …. at least not as of yet . However , ice has a habit of moving around and piling up on itself . Because of that fact , the ice can ” change its mind ” and move in on the Russian research vessel , and put it in mortal danger … even in danger of sinking . The research vessel is built for trips like this , but you never know …  .

.. Adding to the comedy of errors is the problem that a Chinese icebreaker that  had been dispatched to bust loose the Russian ship is itself now stuck in the ice … and now Russia and Australia have dispatched icebreakers to the scene ..

.. What a mess ..

.. Right now , the vessel [the MV  Akademik Shokalskiy] is well supplied , but the sooner they can break loose , the better …

… Uh , JohnBoy , It is not the U.N. who has to act …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Saturday,September 21st,2013

.. it is the United States , and your boss , POTUS , who has to make the decision to act …

[link] – video

[link] — text

.. The DemoCraps are praying that this stuff does not drag out . Well , it is exactly what is going to happen , if Mad Vlad [Putin] and Bashaar the Butcher [Assad] have anything to say and do about it . They will drag it out , and drag it out and drag it out …. . Eventually , POTUS is going to have to make a series of decisions . Are the Russians and Syrians playing games ? Are the Russians playing their usual blocking games at the U.N. ? Can you really trust that the Syrians have disclosed all of their chemical weapons in their diplomatic disclosures ? there are others ….

.. POTUS does not like being forced into these type of decisions . He does not want to act in the Middle East . He does not want to be forced to act in the Middle East . He also realizes that , if he does not act , the Israelis will (against Iran) , and a regional war [one involving us] will result . Eventually , I hope he will come to realize that the monkeyshines in Syria are only a prelude to what may well happen with Iran .

.. Also , given their superb intelligence operations and services , Israel will have a far better idea of what Iran is doing , and what point in their nuclear development they are at , than anyone else will know . They also do not trust Obama . Not one bit . Not Labour , not Kadima , and , most certainly , not the Netanyahu government . Bibi ‘ s majority may be weaker , but when it is a go or no – go call , it will be his call , and his alone . His ministers may not be thrilled will the idea (in some cases) , but they will support him . They also all realize the stakes that are involved .

… What Do You Think of Him Now [Snowden] ?? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

What do You All Think of Him Now ?

.. People have praised the actions of Edward Snowden . They have called him a hero . A whistleblower . They have called him many things . But , they have not called him what they should have called him , truthfully …

.. A Traitor .

.. Yes . A Traitor . It is that plain and simple . With my current case of internet interruptus , I cannot see the latest h – bombshell from the Washington ComPost . It seems that they have published a story , evaluating the actual “black budget” from Congress on the Intelligence Community .

.. Yea , it is a honey . It literally shows the “crown jewels” of the U.S. intelligence assets . What is done and spent where , and how . Evidently , why , as well . What our strength are , and what our weaknesses are . The ComPost has it all . They just have not published it all . Yet .

.. People still think that Snowden is a hero . I do not . I never did . The damage that he has done to our country , and to those people who are fighting the good fight defending us from threats unseen is enourmous and incalculable .

[-] Snowden

.. An operation must be mounted to find Snowden . The Russians have to know this . They know what he knew . And Snowden knew waaaaaaay too much as it is . If the op has to be mounted into Russia , so be it . The threat must be eliminated . As long as Edward Snowden lives , he and his actions present a clear and present danger to this nation and to the world .

[-] Our nation

.. How the hell could this much info have gotten into the hands of an intelligence company contractor . How did someone with this kind of background get any kind of security clearance in the first place ? Why was not better care taken with critical information , and why was it not placed in better places to better protect it ?

Russian officials this week carried out a secret inspection of the U.S. strategic missile defense base in California as part of the New START arms treaty, according to Obama administration officials.

The inspection of five missile defense interceptors is the only one allowed under the 2010 arms accord. The treaty requires cuts of U.S. and Russian deployed strategic warheads to 1,550.

A defense official said the visit was a treaty verification visit hosted by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

A State Department official declined to comment on the inspection but confirmed it was related to New START. “Implementation activities under New START are confidential,” the official said.

However, Thomas Moore, a former Senate Foreign Relations Committee professional staff member, said the inspection of the base was a controversial part of U.S. and Russian arms talks leading up to New START that was ratified by the Senate in December 2010.

The United States had opposed including the five Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) silos in the treaty inspection terms, said Moore, a specialist on arms control issues.

The Russians refused, and because the five silos had been converted from offensive intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) silos, negotiators settled on a single inspection, Moore said, adding that he believed this week’s Russian review was that inspection.

Russia had demanded including the five silos in New START inspection provisions to monitor the conversion of long-range launch tubes into missile defense shooters.

“The United States is required to conduct a one-time exhibition not later than three years after the treaty entered into force at Vandenberg to show Moscow how it distinguishes GBI silos from ICBM silos,” Moore said.

The treaty prohibits converting any additional ICBM silos at Vandenberg to missile defense silos, and the five current GBI silos, built prior to the treaty, were “grandfathered” into the accord.

“The administration agreed with Russia to provide assurances to Russia that the converted ICBM silos ‘remain incapable’ of launching strategic offensive arms [and] record the distinguishing features that set a GBI-converted intercontinental silo apart from a pure intercontinental silo,” Moore said.

The Russian visit from Aug. 18 to Aug. 23 is the only time the Russians will be allowed to look at the GBI silos to confirm that they have not been converted back into ICBMs.

Moore said the visit does not appear to be part of the Obama administration’s effort to show more transparency toward Moscow as a way to placate Russian opposition to missile defenses, especially in Europe.

“Even if this administration was contemplating some more transparency measures for our missile defenses, these five silos at Vandenberg are a settled matter,” he said. “Moscow gets to confirm what we think makes these silos distinct launchers of GBIs, nothing more, nothing less, and only one time.”

Russia issued a unilateral statement in April 2010 saying that its adherence to the New START treaty would be based on “no qualitative or quantitative buildup in the missile defense system capabilities of the United States.

The Senate conditioned its approval of New START in a resolution that specifically rejected the Russian statement on missile defense. It also said the treaty would not impose limits on missile defense deployments beyond the curb on converting additional ICBM or submarine-launched missiles into missile defense launchers, not including the five at Vandenberg.

The Pentagon currently operates two long-range missile defense interceptor bases at Vandenberg and Fort Greely, Alaska. A third base, for the East Coast, is being studied in response to intelligence assessments that Iran will have a missile capable of hitting the United States by 2015.

The missile defense system, which includes satellite and ground- and sea-based radar and sensors, has been activated several times in recent years in response to North Korean long-range missile tests.

The two western-oriented missile defense bases are focused on countering long-range missiles from North Korea.

The Pentagon in March announced that it will add 14 additional long-range interceptors in Alaska following reports that North Korea has fielded at least six road-mobile ICBMs that can hit the United States.

The 14 new interceptors would be added to the 26 currently deployed in Alaska.

The visit by the Russians is likely to prompt concerns on Capitol Hill from Republicans opposed to the administration’s efforts to share missile defense technology with the Russians.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R., Ala.) revealed in May during congressional testimony from Vice Adm. James D. Syring, director of the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency, that the administration has sought to declassify sensitive missile defense technology that could be shared with Moscow.

As a result, Brooks drafted legislation that would prohibit the Pentagon from releasing classified missile defense know-how to the Russians, specifically advanced hit-to-kill missile defense interceptor technology.

Brooks said at the time that the admiral’s comments were “confirmation that the administration is actively discussing the declassification of our life-saving missile defense technology [and] further affirms the importance of enacting legislation to prevent our critical weapons technology from falling into unreliable hands.”

… Cutting and Running is not the Answer ! …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,August 2nd,2013

.. The State Department seems to think that it has accurate intel about terroristic threats about ongoing ops in the Arab World . Or , so it thinks that it does . I would tend to wonder . As a response , they have ordered the “temporary” closure of embassies and consulates throughout the Arab World . They think that that is the answer to an increased security threat ? Cutting and Running ?

.. The ObamaCrap foreign policy is a disgrace . We are the laughingstock , around the world . Our level of respect in foreign lands has never been lower . The so – called ” Russian reset ” is anything but an embarassment . It is but an excuse for our foreign policy establishment to kiss up to the Russians , while appeasing them to the n – th degree , while effectively getting nothing in return . The “Arab Spring” has been totally mismanaged . Our friends cower in fear , while our enemies advance their interests . They do so with very little , if any , fear of what we think , or what we will do . The Far East has badly destabilized , and , if we are not careful , a war could break out , one that could go nuclear very quickly .

.. We need better . We deserve better . We have to have better . The sooner , the better .

… Well , I thought that We were supposed to Benefit from this So – Called ” Russian Reset ” …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,May 17th,2013

.. Well , at the least , we are not enemies . Not any more . But , we can hardly call the Russians friends , either . An Adversary would be a more accurate term , at least I think . The Russkis have their interests . We have our own . But we should not be kowtowing to the Russians , in order to keep the peace .

.. Russia is engaged in a major buildup of both nuclear and conventional missile defense systems at the same time Moscow is seeking legal limits on U.S. missile defenses, according to U.S. officials.

.. The Russian military is developing and deploying an array of new and modernized anti-missile interceptors that are part of a strategic doctrine that calls for defending against what Moscow believes to be an increasing threat posed by offensive ballistic missiles .

.. A threat from whom , I wonder . We still have the damn things . Just nowhere near as many as we used to have . At least we still have our strategic triad . At least , for now .

.. Disclosure of the Russian missile defense buildup comes as the Obama administration is seeking to reach an agreement that critics say could result in legally binding restrictions on U.S. defenses. There are also fears an agreement with Russia will compromise classified technical data on missile defense that the administration is considering sharing with Russian officials .

.. One official said the administration is suppressing evidence of the Russian defense buildup . Why am I not surprised .

.. Instead, the White House is pressing ahead with questionable missile defense negotiations with Russia that are aimed at mollifying Moscow’s concerns that U.S. and NATO defenses are covertly aimed at countering Moscow’s strategic arsenal .

.. “What gives?” this official asked. “Why is the United States kowtowing and trying to please the Russians over their concerns about our missile defenses, and no one ever says anything about their missile defenses?” In talks with the Russians on missile defense, Obama administration negotiators have not proposed that the Russians limit their missile defenses as part of any agreement, the officials said .

.. What gives , indeed . Those idiots are supposed to be providing for OUR common defence , not behaving like a bunch of wussies before the Russians .
