… Earl Tomblin must have a Death Wish …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,April 4th,2014

.. Earl Ray Tomblin is the current Governor of West Virginia . How long he wants to remain in that job is really open to question ..

.. When Election Day comes this fall , no state is likely to get hit by the ” Red ” tide (relatively speaking) more than West Virginia . It has been forever since either chamber of the West VA legislature has been in GOP hands . This fall , that is likely to change . the West VA House is currently narrowly in DemoCrap control . That will likely flip to Red . The West Va Senate is a little more delicate . Iff it gets close enough , some of the Dems could be persauded to switch sides . Then , most likely , both chambers will be in GOP hands …

.. Tomblin will have to wipe his own fanny the next time out . West Virginia is almost suredly to be Red in the next Presidential election , so the topof the ticket will be no help . That candidate and Tomblin will both be wrapped around the failed policies of His Lordship , so it will be interesting to see whether he runs for re – election , or not . There will be no U.S. Senate race the next time , so Joe Manchin will not be able to save his fanny , either …

.. Bye , Bye , Earl !!

… the Holy Father responds [to Univ of Notre Dame] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,February 3rd,2014

.. the University of Notre Dame is currently having its annual trustees meeting … at the Vatican , of all places …

.. Pope Francis (yes , the Holy Father , himself) spoke to the trustees …

.. how would I put it … His Holiness put it , ” It is time to step up , folks . ”

.. the Holy Father did put it differently . Yes , I know that . However , I put it in a way that was K.I.S.S. , keep it simple and specific . Popes are like many religious leaders , they tend to get long winded and wordy …

.. [h/t — CNSnews]

.. [link] to the news piece …

(CNSNews.com) – Pope Francis on Thursday told the president and trustees of the University of Notre Dame–which  is suing the Obama administration for mandating that its health  insurance plans cover sterilizations, contraceptives and  abortion-inducing drugs–that Notre Dame should defend the freedom of  the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are intrinsically immoral.

“The vision which guided Father Edward Sorin and the first religious  of the Congregation of Holy Cross in establishing the University of  Notre Dame du Lac remains, in the changed circumstances of the  twenty-first century, central to the university’s distinctive identity  and its service to the Church and American society,” the pope told the delegation from Notre Dame, which visited with him at the Vatican.

“Essential in this regard is the uncompromising witness of Catholic  universities to the Church’s moral teaching, and the defense of her  freedom, precisely in and through her institutions, to uphold that  teaching as authoritatively proclaimed by the magisterium of her  pastors,” said the pope, according to a transcript published by the Vatican.

“It is my hope that the University of Notre Dame will continue to  offer unambiguous testimony to this aspect of its foundational Catholic  identity, especially in the face of efforts, from whatever quarter, to  dilute that indispensable witness,” he said. “And this is important: its  identity, as it was intended from the beginning. To defend it, to  preserve it and to advance it!”

Prof. Carter Snead of Notre  Dame  Law School saw the pope’s words as encouraging the university in  its court battle against the Obama administration’s efforts to restrict  the freedom of religion.

“The Holy Father’s words strike me as  a timely and profound encouragement to Notre Dame in its continuing  efforts to defend its religious liberty in court,” Prof. Snead told  CNSNews.com.

They “are a powerful reminder to all of us who love and work for  Notre Dame that we have the duty to preserve and expand the university’s  witness to the truths affirmed and proclaimed by the Church,” he said.

“As Pope Francis observes, this witness requires the freedom to  organize and conduct the work of the university in a manner that  reflects these truths,” said Snead. “It seems to me that the dangerous  effort to ‘dilute that indispensable witness’ is the HHS  contraceptive/abortifacient mandate.”

On May 21, 2012 Notre Dame filed suit against the regulation that the  Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius issued under the  Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that requires almost all  health insurance plans to cover sterilization, contraceptive and  abortion-inducing drugs. A federal judge initially dismissed the lawsuit  in December 2012, arguing that Notre Dame lacked standing at the time  to bring the suit. The university filed suit again in December 2013.

Although some other organizations that are suing to stop the  sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate have been granted  injunctions against enforcement of it while their complaints work their  way through the courts, a panel of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals  for the Seventh Circuit on December 31, 2013 denied Notre Dame’s  emergency motion for a stay.

After that action by court, Notre Dame continued to press its  lawsuit, but began to comply with the federal regulation that required  it to notify the third-party administration of its self-insurance plan  that the administrator would be providing the disputed coverage.

“Having been denied a stay, Notre Dame is advising employees that  pursuant to the Affordable Care Act, our third party administrator is  required to notify plan participants of coverage provided under its  contraceptives payment program,” said Paul Browne, Notre Dame’s vice  president for public affairs and communications, according to WNDU.  “As part of an ongoing legal action, however, the program may be  terminated once the university’s lawsuit on religious liberty grounds  against the HHS mandate has worked its way through the courts.”

A professor of history at Notre Dame, Holy Cross Father Bill  Miscamble told the National Catholic Register that he was disappointed  “with the tepid way in which Notre Dame has acquiesced with the  Obamacare provisions and authorized its health-insurance administrator  to implement the HHS mandate.”

Gerard Bradley, a professor at the Notre Dame School of Law, wrote in a post on National  Review’s Bench Memos, “The reasons for [violating the ACA contraception  mandate] would be, as Notre Dame asserted in its formal complaint in  the local federal court, that so ‘triggering’ the coverage would be  tantamount to facilitating abortions in violation of the university’s  Catholic beliefs.”

Under the Obamacare regulation, the university says in its lawsuit,  “Notre Dame must provide, or facilitate the provision of,  abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraceptive services to  its employees in violation of the centuries’ old teachings of the  Catholic Church.”

“If the government can force religious institutions to violate their  beliefs in such a manner, there is no apparent limit to the Government’s  power,” says the Notre Dame lawsuit. “Such an oppression of religious  freedom violates Notre Dame’s clearly established constitutional and  statutory rights.”

… LEC here again — It is time to step up , folks . Get to it , and uphold your moral standards ! …

… This is a Surprise [Pro Life] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,January 26th,2014

.. this is a public change of heart , and it is by someone that I would not expect to do it .

.. PJMedia columnist Andrew Klavan …

.. Andrew is a pretty liberal kind of guy . He describes himself as a self – described libertarian , which better sets out who he is like , I think . Still , he is pretty open and free – wheeling . To see this change of heart by Andrew , I am genuinely surprised .

.. [h/t — TruthRevolt]

.. [link] to the article ….

Despite freezing temperatures and storm-battered travel, thousands of people marched on Washington D.C. Wednesday in the hope of protecting unborn babies from abortion. The demonstrators in the 41st annual March for Life didn’t receive the media adulation dishonest Democrat pol Wendy Davis got when she filibustered a Texas anti-abortion law last summer. But media or no media, the pro-life forces will continue the slow but relentless process of winning honest hearts and minds.

I feel sure they will, because mine is a heart they’ve already won.

Until quite recently, I was pro-abortion. I opposed Roe V. Wade — I thought it a dishonest decision that robbed the people of their right to settle the matter for themselves. But given the chance to vote on the issue, I would have voted for the greatest possible abortion access. While I myself live according to my conservative lights, I’ve never felt I have the right to impose those values on others.

I changed my mind about abortion, however, because after debating the issue with pro-lifers over many years, I found I consistently lost the argument.

I’ve changed many of my opinions as I’ve grown wiser with time, but this change was one of the hardest. Not only does it go against my libertarian nature, it also means opposing the passionately held beliefs of some of the people I love most. Several of the women in my circle feel that access to abortion is an essential right.

But why? How exactly does that argument go?

Whenever I hear abortion spokespeople defend their position — and I mean, whenever I hear them — they seem to me determined to obscure the real issue. They talk about being “pro-choice,” but who among their opponents is anti-choice? They talk about “women’s health,” but what sinister constituency demands that women be unhealthy? They talk about “protecting a woman’s body,” but it’s not the woman’s body under threat, it’s the body of the baby inside her.

During elections, our corrupt leftist journalists routinely play Gotcha with pro-life candidates by asking if they favor abortion in cases of rape and incest. But they never ask “pro-choice” candidates if they favor abortion when the mother wants a boy instead of a girl or a Sagittarius instead of a Virgo or, if it should become possible to determine, a straight son instead of a gay one. Those are all legal reasons for abortion now. Should they be? If not, why not?

Okay, aborting a baby might be liberating, empowering and convenient. It might even dramatically improve the future course of your life. But the same could be said about murdering your wife if she’s a big enough pain in the neck. That doesn’t give you the right to do it, and it doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

The only relevant question about abortion is whether an unborn child is or is not a human being. If she is, I do not see how you have the moral right to kill her except in extreme circumstances.

I know there are good people who say no, a fetus can not yet think or choose fully enough to be considered wholly human. But that viewpoint is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain as better technology reveals the complexity of life within the womb.

And even if a fetus’s humanity is not yet complete, it’s wise to consider this piece of wisdom from the Clint Eastwood western Unforgiven. When you kill a man, Clint’s character says, you “take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.” That’s right. We are creatures who exist in time. We are as much what we will be as who we are. A man who’s fast asleep can’t think or choose fully either, but he’ll be well able when morning comes. So it is with an unborn child.

My natural sympathies are with the libertarians on this issue. But logic and moral truth are with the people who marched in Washington Wednesday. And so now I’m with them too.

… Got Him !! [Kermit Gosnell] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,May 14th,2013

.. Kermit Gosnell is going to jail . And , hopefully , he is soon going to meet his maker .

.. Yesterday ,  the jury in his criminal trial completed its work , and reached verdicts in the criminal case . On the important points , Kermit Gosnell was found guilty of 3 of 4 1st degree murder charges . And , for the most part , he was found guilty on many of the other counts .

.. Found Guilty on 21 of 24 felony charges , including the murder charges , overall . Found guilty on 211 of 227 other charges , largely 1st degree and 2nd degree misdemeanors , on abortion – related , and notification – related charges .

.. I am most definitely pro – life , but I do not always follow the leading pro – life sites and blogs . Yesterday , thankfully , I remembered to . … It is a Gosnell World …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,May 13th,2013

.. What is it that makes people , including the LameStreamMedia , all but ignore the horrors perpetrated by Kermit Gosnell . Why ? Why do they only have a passing interest in this incredibly gruesome case ? What can be done about it ?

.. The LSM has done a horrendous job of covering this story , if and or when they have covered the story at all . They are notoriously inhumane , if conscious at all , on the subject of abortion . Some have said that the mainstream media has done a poor job of covering this man and his evil deeds , because its agenda does not include honesty on the subject of abortion .

.. Life does not go on and has not for more than 50 million human beings in America. For 40 years it has been legal and culturally acceptable for a mother to pay a third party to have her baby killed . And for more than 40 years it has been legal for doctors to prescribe chemicals to their female patients that will affect their bodies in such a way that they will not get pregnant or, if they do, the baby will die before he or she is a week old. Few women are ever told this because the practice of obstetrics has been in the deception business for a very long time, at least when it comes to sexual relations and pregnancy . This is why so few abortion proponents ever mention the word “baby.” It is bad for business.

.. Gosnell ‘ s story is a indignity and an outrage . It is a horror beyond words . He is in many ways the poster bost for murder and mayhem in our country . He has terrorized and killed babies, maimed women, and only God knows what else with impunity since 1972. But then he got sloppy and murdered one too many babies born alive after abortion . To my mind no end is in sight for such stories — not until my fellow Americans come to realize that human beings exist from the point of their creation and that their lives are not debatable. They are not fungible , nor are they disposable.

.. Abortion has dimmed our sense of decency and dignity , especially where human life , and its preservation is concerned . Abortion has dulled our appreciation for the human being. Abortion has facilitated our denial that selfless love is more important than self gratification . The result of that , though , is apathy , and that is what the Gosnell trial is about — apathy that dismisses humanity for the sake of convenience.
