… Atlantic City is Dying [#gambling monopoly lost]…

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,August 6th,2014

.. and it behooves other cities and regions to learn lessons from its failure …

.. one is its regulation . Regulation of casino gaming in New Jersey is a godsend . It is a model for the nation . It is strong and it is tight . There has been virtually no reports of corruption , none , since casinos came in in the 1970s …

.. another is not to depend on casinos and casino gaming . In Atlantic City , casinos are it . Nothing else . It other regions , tourism , pro sports , college sports , universities , cultural events and attractions , etc are part of the mix . In Cleveland and the other cities of Ohio , they are diverse in their makeup , save Toledo , which is slowly improving …

.. [h/t — Bloomberg.com]..
.. [link] to the news story …

.. another key is growth . in Greater Las Vegas [Clark County] , Nevada , that county grows like crazy . Casinos are not left by themselves to be the growth engine ; they are a part of it . In Cleveland , the city has stabilized , at last , but the suburbs are growing , and the surrounding counties are growing steadily …

.. You also have to deal with competition . Atlantic City never really did deal with it . Ohio will have to face it , where , eventually , more casinos will likely be legalized , and the system will be deregulated . Also , technology . you cannot avoid it . Eventually , online gaming will be re – legalized in the U.S. , whether brick – and – mortar casinos like it or not …

.. one thing that the brick – and – mortars have over the onlines is the experience . Entertainment . Chow , Gaming , the Works . OLs are so boh – ring …

… Earth to George (Clooney) …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,April 25th,2014

.. POTUS is an [bleep]hole ! ..

.. Obama is also a wuss ..

.. it seems that George Clooney was in Las Vegas , promoting a Hollywood project with some pals of his . Also in attendance were several high – level bigwigs from the casino industry , including casino magnate Steve Wynn . Well , the wine flowed , and …

.. Steve Wynn once supported POTUS . He once did , but no more . Ever since he broke with POTUS , he has been highly critical of Obama , his behavior , and his politics , not to mention his policies . Well , since the suds had been flowing , Clooney was , to say …. a more than a bit toasted , and took exception to his remarks …

.. Wynn especially did not like Obama ‘ s weakness these days . He teed off on him , and called him an asshole . Clooney took exception to the remarks , and had a rather heated but drunken argument with Wynn …

.. Who do you believe , and why? [I stand fully with Steve Wynn . No , I am not a George Clooney fan…]

… Confrontation in Nevada …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Saturday,April 12th,2014

.. I am not sure what to think of this guy …

.. they are good people , attached to the land , good stewards of the land , and what do they get for their troubles ? They get screwed by the government …

.. [h/t — theGatewayPundit]..
.. [link] to the blogpost ..

.. do these folks have a legit beef with the BLM ? Maybe …. do they owe the government money ? yes , and probably quite a bit of it , to be honest …. do they have a legit beef with the E.P.A. ? Hell , yes . That ” turtle ” that is said that they are trying to ” protect ” is actually doing very well , and is thriving elsewhere in Clark County …. should they have their cattle confiscated ? to be honest , no …. confiscating cattle is not necessary …

.. more on this , to be sure …

… Big Shot [News Editorials , on ObamaCrapCare] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,November 18th,2013

.. when it is small – town newspapers calling for repeal and replacement of ObamaCrapCare , that is one thing , but …

.. when it is the editorial pages of the Chicago Tribune [link1] , and the Las Vegas Review – Tribune [link2] ?

.. that is something else . The Tribune is , of course , the largest newspaper in the Tribune newspapers chain , and is the largest newspaper in Chicago , Illinois , the home of POTUS . The Las Vegas Review – Journal is , by far , the largest newspaper in the state of Nevada , as well as Clark County , and the city of Las Vegas . Las Vegas is , of course , the seat of power of Dingy Harry Reid the (for now) Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate .

.. That these two papers are ringing the bells of these two jokers is not insignificant . Obama will never be on a political ballot , again . Right now , Dingy Harry is likely to retire when he is up again . Reid will have a gigantic target on his back , by then be the Senate Minority Leader , and have more than one well – financed opponent . A primary opponent for Dingy Harry (from either the right , or from the left) cannot be ruled out . Things could get very hot , indeed for the Dingy One .

.. Here are some snipets of both editorials …

… from the Chicago Tribune …

the headline is enough … Stop Digging . Start Over .

… from the Las Vegas Review – Journal …

Congressional Democrats can’t run away from this mess fast enough, as evidenced by the number of partisans proposing or supporting legislation to let individuals keep their current plans — which led to the president’s Hail Mary on Thursday. At this point, however, it’s impossible to fix that broken promise. The insurance industry, which has spent all year entirely remodeling plans to become Obamacare compliant, can’t turn it all back around in just 45 days and is furious with being scapegoated into trying to do so. An industry insider told BuzzFeed.com, “This doesn’t change anything other than force insurers to be the political flak jackets for the administration.”

Said Karen Ignagni, president of America’s Health Insurance Plans: “Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums for consumers.”

As the guys in those Guinness commercials would say, “Brilliant!” Obamacare policy premiums in many cases were already going to cost significantly more money; this “fix” could cause even bigger increases. The law is so deeply flawed, with so many components in direct conflict with one another, that tweaking just one part will accelerate its collapse.

The Obamacare debacle is just getting started — and it only gets worse from here. Repeal and replace.

… Those Union Protests in Las Vegas are Sick …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,October 11th,2013

.. what i am referring to are Culinary Workers union protests at one of the largest non – union hotels that is left in the region . The Cosmopolitan is a large hotel , around [2,995] rooms , and it is owned by , of all people , Deutche Bank . Originally , Hyatt Hotels (the Pritzker family company) was going to build this monster , but the 2008 recession scuttled the plans . DB bought  the hotel / condo / parking garage / casino complex for around $1.2 billion .  .

.. Casinos are a big business . Ohio now has casino gambling , although the effect of the business is limited . There is no casino competition in Ohio . There are only 4 casinos , one each in Cleveland , Toledo , Columbus , and Cincinnati . Caesars owns and manages 2 ,  while Hollwood owns and manages the other 2 .

.. In Ohio , like the other states , casino gambling is tightly regulated . Ohio patterned its regulatory setup after New Jersey , where the regulatory setup is generally considered to be the best in the country . Right now , casino gambling in Ohio is set in the state ‘ s  constitution , so it will not grow for quite some time . In other states , it is quite different .

.. In Nevada , the casino industry is huge . Las Vegas is the nation ‘ s and the world ‘ s casino gambling capital .  Any gambling – related company that is anyone is there in Nevada . The size of the casinos . Geez whiz ! . They are as large as (the second coming) of the MGM – Grand , with over , you heard me right , [xx] rooms . Wow !

.. It will not be easy for the Culinary Workers . Most of the city ‘ s casino workers [porters , dealers , service , etc] are members of one union or another . However , the Culinary (Food Service) Workers are the largest and the most influential .  They are , like most  unions , heavily DemoCrap – leaning .  No big surprise there .

.. However , Nevada is unlike other states . Nevada has a significant – sized Latino community , and it is growing still . However , Clark County , in which Las Vegas sits , has resumed growing like crazy after the 2008-2011 recession . It is also , unlike the People ‘ s Republic of Taxifornia , much more Republican – leaning . Dean Heller , a Republican , is one of the U.S. Senator (with Dingy Harry Reid being the other) . Governor Brian Sandoval , a latino Republican , and former federal district court judge , is leading the way .

.. Nevada is a right – to – work state , but its efects are limited . A stronger right – to – work law would be very , very helpful . It will take a GOP legislature to do that . That would be nice . Also , it would take some balls among the casino hotel companies to stand up to the union thuggery . Once they do , their hold on the industry will be broken  , and done so for good …
