… Steven A. Smith has Guts …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Saturday,May 31st,2014

.. and , he stands by what he says , no matter what the reaction …

.. [h/t — TruthRevolt]..
.. [link] to the blog news ..

.. in this instance , he got plenty of it . He caught living hell for what he said …

.. businessman , venture investor , and Dallas Mavs owner Mark Cuban stirred up a pretty fair bit of a hornet ‘ s nest . Cuban said that if he encountered a black man with a hoodie , or a white man with lots of tattoos , he would cross the street in order to avoid the person in question . Steven A. stood up for Cuban and endorsed his view , stating that he would do the same thing …

.. Cuban stirred up a hornet ‘ s nest , but Steven A. Smith caused quite an uproar , especially in the black community . He was called a racist , a traitor , and , most of all , an ” Uncle Tom . ” …

Uncovering the “big elephant in the room,” Smith suggests that people are afraid to talk about the prejudices that all are guilty of because “white folks are scared they are going to be labeled racist,” and “black folks are scared they are going to be labeled sell outs.”

Smith affirms that he is not turning a blind-eye to the obvious racism that still exists in the country. Yet he does not think that every issue affecting the black community is race related. He said, “Sometimes it is about how you represent yourself — it is about how you present yourself.”

When I alluded to walking around with your pants hanging below your behind, that’s trifling. That’s just trifling and it’s counter productive. When I talked about how you sitting there and the first words out of your mouth are, y’know what I’m sayin’, y’know what I mean — no the hell we don’t!

When I talk about not having a command of the English language and still you want a job, and you want to have a career, but you don’t want to get your education — you don’t want to go out there and pound that pavement. Everything is about the sprint; it’s not about the marathon. It’s not about you putting forth the necessary effort and due diligence over the long haul to get the things that you need. That’s a reality in our community.

That reality, Smith says, is by acting in that way, some in the black community are “feeding” the stereotypes and thus keeping themselves from moving forward in life.

Smith ended by talking about the American dream. He said the American dream is not the rap artist or NBA star that went from nothing to hundreds of millions of dollars — that he calls “a fantasy.” But he uses his own story to tout what it really takes to achieve the American dream:

… It is Not the Sexuality of Micheal Sam that will cause problems …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,May 16th,2014

.. it is the media strategy of the exposue of his homosexuality that will cause the N.F.L. and its people the most grief .

.. you can expect the first openly gay player in the N.F.L. to make waves . Especially the first one to be drafted . The players know about it , and understand . They know that there have been gay players in the league for years . They just have not been out of the closet about it . They are cool about it …

.. Most people are the same way about gay people and lesbians . They are generally upfront and cool about it . They just are not wild about people that are in-your-face about it . That is where the problems will be …

.. [h/t — TruthRevolt]]..

.. it will be the in-your-face part of the media strategy that will cause the St. Louis Rams and the rest of the N.F.L. problems . Michael Sam should keep things a lot more low – key , if he were smart . Stuff like this in the media will not help …

… Nice Going , Kobe Bryant …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,April 7th,2014

.. no , I really mean this .

.. Kobe has been caught up in a rough season , to say the least . He spent the most chunk of last season rehabbing after surgery on a blowout in his Achilles tendon . Then , early this year , he suffered a hairline fracture in his leg , knocking him out of the beginning of the season …

.. things have not gotten a whole lot better for him . He was only able to play about 12 to 15 games this season . The problem is that he reinjured his leg , leaving him out roughly for the remainder of the season . The Lakers really stink this year , so having him come back for a few games to finish the year makes no sense . Better to have him sit out , rest up , and get healthy ….

.. however , it is his comments on the Trayvon Martin case that have gotten him into considerable hot water . He bascially said that , just because that he is an  African – American (a black man) , that he should or could automatically support Trayvon Martin  and his cause just because of the color of his skin . The back hand of  this is that one should support Trayvon Martin from the merit of the arguments and the case , not because of skin color …

.. Kobe has an outlook on life different than most folks . His father [Joe ” Jellybean ” Bryant] was also a pro basketball player  , Joe Bryannt played some in the N.B.A. , but he played most of his professional career in Europe ,  specifically in Italy , around Rome . So Kobe was raised in a European atmosphere , travelingto various cities in Italy and other European nations (Germany & France) , plus a base in Rome gave Joe a chance to expose Kobe to the Vatican and  the Holy See …

.. the interview  features ESPN ‘ s Steven A. Smith , who was being interviewed by talk show host Arsenio Hall . Smith apparently also agrees with Kobe …

… Regrettably , Steven A. , It is What Happens [to Black Conservatives] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,December 19th,2013

.. these days liberals , especially Black liberals , are the height of intolerant . Why ?

.. [link] to Steven A. Smith ‘ s commentary …

.. to most folks , black conservatives help contribute to the intellectual fabric , by helping contribute to and feed the debate . With black liberals ,however , it is most definitely not the case . They feel threatened by black conservatives . They feel that black conservatives are a grievous threat to their power and their influence .

.. So , what happens ? They are mocked and ostracized , sent to the never – land of the black community , not to be dealt with . They are that afraid of them . While that happens , the black conservative community continues to grow in size and influence …

.. Sooner or later , the black community will have to take note of these folks . They cannot ignore them . These conservatives are among the most vigorous intellectuals , creative artists , athletes , and thinkers , no matter what the skin color . They cannot and will not be ignored , Steven A. Smith …

… What Could E.S.P.N. have found Wrong with This ?!?! [Charitable Christian Ad] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,December 15th,2013

.. there will be several links with this one . The place where I live has DirecTV , and it does not have ESPN (rats) …

.. I heard about this controversy , courtesy of being a fan of the O ‘ Reilly Factor on FoxNewsChannel . Bill caught this one , and hammered ESPN for it . I can understand these folks wanting to be non – controversial , but jeezus …

[h/t–theBlaze.com]

.. [link] to Bill ‘ s commentary on the controversy ..
.. [link] to the ad ..

[h/t — CNSnews.com]

.. [link] to the video and the article …

.. the ad is a charitable Christian – based ad for the Cardinal Glennon Children ‘ s Foundation . They are raising funds , as they often do , for their foundation , and for the Cardinal Glennon Children ‘ s Medical Center , a Catholic – based hospital in St. Louis , Missouri . They wanted to buy time on ESPN to promote their cause during the Christmas season . No biggie , there . Or , so you would think . ESPN rejected the ad . Why ?

.. I think that it was for its ” overly ” religious content . Also , the ad encouraged people to visit the foundation ‘ s website , and write sympathetic and empathetic messages for children , if possible , ones with a religious basis . These days , TV channels behave like a bunch of wussies . They run like hell away from anything that they think might or could be controversial . It seems that religion , amazingly enough , is a controversial subject . Why ? …

.. #Stop the Insanity …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,May 31st,2013

.. Well , this is my first – ever hash tag , and this one should be a doozy . It seems that the N.C.A.A. has lost all sense of sanity , proportionality , and common sense .

.. There is an student athlete at a West Coast school (ESPN did not say which one) that washed her car on campus . You would think , no biggee  . Tell that to the N.C.A.A. . Those dummies fined her (yes , fined her) $20 for the use of the school ‘ s water , and for the use of the hose . She evidently lives on campus . Well , guys , what do you expect . Have her go off – campus , and pay a fortune ?

.. Where there are extra benefits to student athletes , there should be some sense of decency and proportionality . Going after the penny – ante stuff is nuts . Go after the big – money serious e – bs , not the chump change . Going after the small stuff makes you look ridiculous , as well as petty . Payoffs and Corruption have no place in college and college sports . However , logic , clear thinking , and smarts do have a place . So does Morality .
