… Hey , Folks ! … Boko Haram is ….

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,May 13th,2014

.. a terror group of the first order ..

.. they are muslim , yes , but they are Nigerian by origin .

.. Nigeria is an incredibly diverse country . It is more than 55% Christian , but it has a significant (more than 30%) muslim minority . Which is where Boko Haram comes in . They are so violent , they make Al Qaeda look like a bunch of choir boys .

.. unfortunately Nigeria has not been the most stable of nations . It has know significant stretches of dictatorships for much of its history . The setbacks have held Nigeria back , it being Africa ‘ s largest nation , in terms of population , and Africa ‘ s largest economy . Maybe now , Nigeria is truly turning the corner , but the political violence of the insurgency in the northeast of the country is not helping one bit ..

.. Boko Haram has struck this time , with a vengeance . They have kidnapped 300 Christian girls from a residential school dormitory , and have fled into the countryside . They are threatening to sell them as slaves and as ” wives ” to their militant adherents …

.. this is as sick as it gets …

… Marriage is for Me !! …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,December 23rd,2013

Marriage is For Me !

.. No , I have never been married . But , I respect and admire my friends and family who are married . I believe that it is for the best for all that are concerned .

.. Yea , I am lonely . I have always wished to find the right person . God willing , I will . When that will happen , I do not know . But , I believe that it will happen ..

.. I am an idealist . I always have been . Even after all the things that I have been through down through the years , you might think that I may well be a cynic . I am not . I would rather live and die as an idealist , than to live one day as a cynic .

.. Love can come suddendly . It can , as I have found , come softly (from Jeannette Oke ‘ s books and movies) . Being friends first helps . But it is not always necessary .

.. Are there fears and anxieties ? Sure . Finding the right person , first of all . Not to be picky , no . I come with baggage . In my case , also a hot fuse . That is what scares me to death , more than anything else . I do not want to hurt the people that I care about , because I am a hot head ..

.. You might think that I had gotten advice from my parents . I thought that I had not . Then I realized that it was right in front of me . It was their example . They were not perfect . Far from it . But they made it work … every day , for almost 48 years . May God Bless them Always !

.. I believe that it takes not being selfish , but being selfless enough . A lot more than that . If one is too selfish , well , then , ….

Marriage is about family.
.. I realized that I had seen my parent ‘ s advice . My father was not a preacher . Not even close . A scoutmaster , yes . Nothing made him more proud than when both my brother John and I earned our Eagle Scout badges . It did not always make it easy to deal with a father and a scoutmaster . But , I finally understood . I wanted to achieve , but also did not want to embarass him . I did not . Generally , not publically . Sometimes , in private .
.. Yea , my father and I look a lot alike . But we are very different people . He passed away in June of 2005 . I think about him every day . Every day . My mom , too . My father was up – from – the – boostraps working class , not the best in school , and worked his fanny off to become a top flight electical engineer . Also , a top – flight technical writer . He was a 32nd degree FreeMason by his mid40s , and could have gone higher . Much higher .

.. What matter more . Our family . Not just Mom . My sister , Karen , my brother John , and me . Indian Guides . Boy Scouts . Church . American Legion . A Master Gardener , in retirement . All of that . One heck of an example . But not perfect , either .

.. God , I miss my mother . She passed away in January of 2000 . A top flight RN for almost 40 years . Most of her career was spent in maternity nursing at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland , Ohio . She was upper middle – class , and had to defy my grandmother to take the exams to enter nursing school . Doing it anytime took guts . Doing it in the early 1950s took a lot more guts .

.. Does it scare me ? Yes , it does . But , not as much as one might think . Even the likelyhood or possibility of being a step – parent . Who knows . Being an excellent role model matters the most . Especially in this day and age .

.. No , I am not that open . I am still shy . But our world has changed so much , and is still changing . Hopefully for the better . Making sure that technology is an aid , and not a crutch , is helpful .

My Siblings

.. Both are married . One for 18 years , the other for almost 35 years . Great job , you too . Especially with my nieces and nephew . My nephew is a newlywed . I wonder how my sister feels about becoming a Grandmaw [ha!ha!] . Just kidding , Sis ! I think that it would be great .

the ” M ” word
.. Do I wish I have talked to them about the ” M ” word ? Yea , I do . Those who know me would not be surprised that I did not . I am extraordinarily painfully shy . Still am . The experience of these years has helped to loosen some of the shyness .

.. No true relationship of love is just about you. Love is about the person you love . It is about being selfless .

.. And , the more that you love that person, the more love you receive . And not just from your significant other, but from their friends and their family and thousands of others you never would have met had your love remained self-centered.

.. Truly, love and marriage is for you . .

… What Could E.S.P.N. have found Wrong with This ?!?! [Charitable Christian Ad] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,December 15th,2013

.. there will be several links with this one . The place where I live has DirecTV , and it does not have ESPN (rats) …

.. I heard about this controversy , courtesy of being a fan of the O ‘ Reilly Factor on FoxNewsChannel . Bill caught this one , and hammered ESPN for it . I can understand these folks wanting to be non – controversial , but jeezus …

.. [link] to Bill ‘ s commentary on the controversy ..
.. [link] to the ad ..

[h/t —]

.. [link] to the video and the article …

.. the ad is a charitable Christian – based ad for the Cardinal Glennon Children ‘ s Foundation . They are raising funds , as they often do , for their foundation , and for the Cardinal Glennon Children ‘ s Medical Center , a Catholic – based hospital in St. Louis , Missouri . They wanted to buy time on ESPN to promote their cause during the Christmas season . No biggie , there . Or , so you would think . ESPN rejected the ad . Why ?

.. I think that it was for its ” overly ” religious content . Also , the ad encouraged people to visit the foundation ‘ s website , and write sympathetic and empathetic messages for children , if possible , ones with a religious basis . These days , TV channels behave like a bunch of wussies . They run like hell away from anything that they think might or could be controversial . It seems that religion , amazingly enough , is a controversial subject . Why ? …

… Why the Church Attacks by the Muslim Brotherhood ?? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Friday,August 16th,2013

.. simplest way possible , is that because they can . They are also trying to send a message to Egyptian society (including the military) . We are still here , and we will do what we please .

.. One is that because the Christian minority, unlike the military, is vulnerable. Christians and their churches were increasingly subject to attacks as the Muslim movement sought to make the position of the religious minority untenable. As the Brotherhood seeks to demonstrate that it is still a viable force in the country’s streets even after its Cairo strongholds are uprooted, expect more attacks on Christians to remind Egyptians that the Islamists are still a force to be reckoned with.

.. Two , the attacks on churches are not just a regrettable sideshow in what may be soon seen as a civil war . The MB will , as you might think , work and scheme to try to regain power , especially after losing it in the way that they did . They lost it to the massive street protests that encouraged the army to launch the coup that ended Morsi’s rule. Rather, such attacks are an inextricable part of their worldview . They seek to work to transform Egypt in their own Islamist image.

.. In the Muslim Brotherhood’s eye , there is no room for Christians or even secular Muslims. That is why so many in Egypt applauded the coup as perhaps the last chance to save the country from permanent Islamist rule.
The Brotherhood may have used a seemingly democratic process to take power in 2012, but they would never have peacefully relinquished it or allowed their opponents to stop them from imposing their will on every aspect of Egyptian society .

.. As difficult as it may be for some high-minded Americans to understand, in this case it is the military and not the protesters in Cairo who are seeking to stop tyranny. Though the military is an unattractive ally, anyone seeking to cut off vital U.S. aid to Egypt should remember that the only alternative to it is the party that is currently burning churches.

… Egyptian Christians Targeted [What Else is New , Unfortunately] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Saturday,July 13th,2013

.. The aftermath of the removal of Mohammed Morsi from power is taking ominous turns :

.. The military’s ouster of President Mohamed Morsi has unleashed a new wave of violence by extremist Muslims against Christians whom they blame for having supported the calls to overthrow Mr. Morsi, Egypt’s first Islamist elected leader, according to rights activists.

.. Since Mr. Morsi’s ouster on July 3rd , the activists say, a priest has been shot dead in the street, Islamists have painted black X’s on Christian shops to mark them for arson and angry mobs have attacked churches and besieged Christians in their homes. Four Christians were reported slaughtered with knives and machetes in one village last week.

.. The attacks have hit across the country , in the northern Sinai Peninsula, in a resort town on the Mediterranean coast, in Port Said along the Suez Canal and in isolated villages in upper Egypt.

.. Tensions between the Christian minority and extremist elements in the Muslim majority are not new, but many cite anger among Islamists at the removal of Mr. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood from power as fueling the recent increase in violence.

.. Many Christians were alarmed at the victories of Islamists in elections after the 2011 revolution that overthrew Mr. Morsi’s autocratic predecessor, Hosni Mubarak. Although Christians by no means represented a majority of the anti-Morsi rallies that preceded Mr. Morsi’s downfall, Christians did participate in the campaigns to remove Mr. Morsi that so deeply antagonized his supporters.

..  “They thought Christians played a big role in the protests and in the army’s intervention to topple Morsi, so this is revenge for that,” said Ishaq Ibrahim, who has documented the violence for the Cairo-based Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, or EIPR.

.. Many Islamist leaders blamed Christians and holdovers from the Mubarak era for the mass protests against Mr. Morsi that took place on the June 30 anniversary of his swearing-in. Even rank-and-file Islamists maintaining a sit-in in a Cairo suburb calling for Mr. Morsi’s return often have spoken spitefully of what they described as Christian collusion.

.. In some places, Christians were admonished not to participate in the anti-Morsi protests. Fliers distributed in the upper Egypt province of Minya, documented by EIPR, warned that “one liter of gas can light up your gold, wood, plumbing, tractor, carpentry shops, buses, cars, houses, churches, schools, agricultural fields and workshops.”

.. They were signed “people who care for the country.”

.. If the aftermath of this coup turns into sectarian violence, then Egypt may find itself heading down a path that will be bad not only for its own future, but for the future of the entire region.
