… POTUS a “Grandiose Narcissist ?” …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 10th,2013

.. I wonder . POTUS seems to have a great deal of faith in his own abililties and his own intellectual superiority . It makes him to be one very arrogant bastard , that is for sure .

.. I would wonder if there is any kind of psychological (albeit political) evaluation . No , not an explicitly political one . A specifically

medical , i.e. a psychological one , or one of a psychiatric nature . It would make for very interesting reading , that is for sure . Considering what is going on over Syria right now , it would sure make for very interesting reading …

.. In this case , this one involves an Obama – style clone , soon – to – be former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of Australia . You will find this short piece , from the Sydney Morning Herald , and the link to the longer one to the parent piece at the Australian Financial Review to be very interesting reading . It does take some understanding of Australian politics , but not much . I am not trying to be arrogant , at least I hope not .

.. Australia ‘ s legislature looks like it is similar in form to our Congress here in the U.S. . Not quite . The form , yes . The function , though , is a great deal more like a Westminster style Parliament . The lower House majority elects the Prime Minister , and , except in rare instances , the elections are held on a regular basis every three years .

.. Rudd politically knifed his predecessor , former PM Julia Gillard , just a few weeks ago . He was convinced that he was the candidate to take Australia ‘ s Labour party into the most recent general election . Well , she went , and he took over , and you might wonder what happened ? Guess ?

.. Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party / National Party coalition (the Tories) blew out Labour , and did it in style . The coalition won about 90 to 92 seats in Australia ‘ s lower House of Parliament , against 58 for Labour and their alies . Bombs Away ! Guess kevin got his just reward , and now it is off to the political wilderness for both Rudd and Gillard …

… JohnBoy Kerry does it Again [diplomatic blunder] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 9th,2013

.. nice going , JohnBoy ! You did it again with your proposal to supposed “surrender” Syria ‘ s chemical arms to either Russia or another body (or nation) .

.. A couple of questions …

[-] How can we be sure that Syria has accounted for everything in chemical arms that it has ?

[-] How do we know that these chemical arms are Syrian in origin ? or , are they someone else ‘ s (like Iraqi) ?

[-] Remember Sadly Insane ‘ s game playing on moving the pieces around his country . Anyone think that other countries , including Syria , were not taking notes on how to screw around arms inspectors ?

[-] the Syrians are going to want to give over their weapons to a party of their choosing . They do not want anyone playing peek-a-boo in the warheads , and testing the chemicals for point-of-origin ?

.. there is a video clip [link] here from the Washington Free Beacon . It regards Jay Carney ‘ s press briefing , earlier this afternoon . It is regarding SecState JohnBoy Kerry ‘ s statement (or , as I think , misstatement) that the proposed Syria operation will likely be “unbelievably small ” …

.. JohnBoy should know better . After Vietnam ( a far better reason for Presidential abuses of power ) , he should realize that two things that are next to impossible to control , once unleashed …

[-] War , and

[-] Presidential Power

.. JohnBoy ‘ s statements were a huge blunder , and he had another one on the possible surrender of “chemical arms” from Syria to Russia or Anyone else ? …

… [On Congressional Authorization] Oh , Yes you do !! …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 9th,2013

.. It seems that the dummies in the ObamaCrap White House continue to hem and haw over their prospects in the Syria operation . Well , guys and gals , you had better wise up .

.. Before having sought Congress ‘ blessing , as well as political cover , BHO & co certainly had the legal , as well as constitutional authority to make the Syria operation . BHO is commander-in-chief . He can make that order , if he so so chose . Presidents have quite a bit of authority over the war – making power in our country . They do not have all of it .

.. The political cover that Congress ‘ approval would give would also give the ObamaCraps the ability to cajole the

English: Barack Obama delivers a speech at the...

… POTUS … (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Congresscritters and Senators to cough up the $$ to pay the bills for the operation(s) . However , it remains for POTUS to actually make the case . He has not done so , as of yet .

.. Going to Congress changes things . It would create a constitutional crisis of the first order if BHO ordered our military into action , while Congress affirmatively votes down the operation in either or both Houses . It would completely strip Obama of moral authority to mount the operation . It would also cause the calls for his impeachment to continue to mount , and potentially even in his own party . Going to the ‘ Hill changes the game , folks .

.. Idiocy such as this [link] in the Hill does POTUS no good . It makes his ability to make his case all that much harder . Congress is a co – equal branch of our government . BHO seems not to act like that , that he is sovereign over them , and his word is law .

.. WRONG !!

.. He is not . He is the Chief Executive , and head of the Executive Branch . He is not the First Dictator . Anyone who would have such pretentions should quit , or be booted out  of the door , in a flash . Congress and the Supreme Court are also parts of co – equal branches . People would really perceive the danger to their liberties if anyone were acting in such a way like this .

.. If even one congressional DemoCrap comes out , and starts making noises about the “I” word , then you-know-who is in deep and dire trouble . He would deserve it , too ….

… Australia and the Carbon Tax …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,September 8th,2013

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott (16)

… new Australian PM Tony Abbott …

.. if Labour is smart , they will vote (at least to a point) with the new Government to repeal the hated Carbon tax .

.. This tax is indeed hated down under . It places Australia at a distinct disadvantagege in comparison to its neighbours , economically . Australia is indeed diversifying its economy , but it is still very much export – based , in many ways a great deal like Canada . Now it will be in a better position to compete , and not just in Asia .

.. It will be interesting to see how the change in power in Canberra will be taken in Europe and the America . The big factor is , of course , my home country , the United States . We have our first Communist President , one who is a wus at home , and is a even bigger wus overseas .

.. In the U.S. , POTUS ‘ effective remaining power is his power over the administrative state . He can lay out his policies , but his policies do not make him popular . Matter of fact , they make him ever more unpopular . Any way that he tries to implement policy is contested in the courts . Which makes for both an interesting time , and lots of delays .

.. These days , an even bigger fight has ensued over his policies . Left – wing and ecosocialist interest groups take their beefs over ObamaCrap Administration policies to court . Where it then gets interesting is when those same groups and the ObamaCraps start playing “footsie,” legally . It then sets up what is known as a “sue and settle” situation , where the ObamaCraps still get their policy enacted , and effectively block opposition from the right by blocking their access to the courts .

.. I wonder how Australia ‘ s export – based economy is going to like that . Especially with the carbon tax likely to go the way of the “do – do bird . ”

… Congrats to Tony Abbott [new Australian PM] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Sunday,September 8th,2013

.. hot dog ! ..

.. Tony Abbott and the Liberal / National Party Coalition [the Tories] have won an overwhelming election mandate , and have been returned to power after a very long abscence from power .

.. Abbott ‘ s Coalition has appeared to have won 91 or 92 seats in the Australian House of Representatives . It represents an approximate 33 or 34 seat majority in that body . Australia ‘ s Parliament looks in form somewhat like our U.S. Congress , but its function is that of a Westminster parliament , or similar to the Britain . Its Senate control is divided , only because one – healf of the seats were up .

.. Abbott is right . Australia is indeed , open for business once again . If the Aussie Laborites and the Greens are not careful , Abbott could force the Govenour General [Australia ‘ s nominal head of state] to have a “double dissolution ” of both house. It would then put all 150 House seats and 76 Senate seats up at once , and Labour would be to blame .

.. Australia ‘ s hated “carbon tax” will survive , at least for now . Unless Labour is nuts , they will support the new Government , and vote for repeal . Playing political “chicken” with a newly elected and apparantely very popular PM is a really dumb idea . We shall see …

… This is A Text [Draft Resolution] , but Not for What You Think …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,September 5th,2013

.. this is a text of a simple and short draft resolution , one that was drafted by Rep. Devin Nunes [R-Ca] . It is K.I.S.S. – class . simple and short . But , it is not for what you might think .

.. first , the text …

It is the sense of Congress that the President shall report to Congress within sixty days on the justification for using military force

English: Devin Nunes, U.S. Representative from...

in Syria, including:

a. An explanation of the steps he has taken to secure greater support from America’s allies, including NATO, for his plan of action in Syria;

b. A detailed plan for military action in Syria, including specific goals and military objectives;

c. An explanation of what would qualify as a successful effort to “degrade” the Assad regime’s chemical weapons supply;

d. An explanation of how a “limited” military strike, if that is the preferred course of action, would help to secure Syria’s chemical weapons supplies and deter the future use of chemical weapons;

e. An explanation of how a “limited” military strike would advance the President’s policy supporting regime change in Syria, and what he has done to ensure that terrorist groups will not seize power there and/or gain control of Syria’s chemical weapons;

f. An explanation of how a “limited” military strike on Syria would prevent Iran and Russia from keeping the Assad regime in power;

g. An explanation of whether al Qaeda or other terrorist groups in Syria have access to chemical weapons, and whether they have used them in the past or could use them in the future;

h. An explanation of whether weapons from Libya are now being used by the Syrian opposition.

i. An estimate of the financial cost of his course of action in Syria.

… LEC back — I think that the House G.O.P. is secretly trying to get POTUS ‘ attention , if necessary , to whack him with a political 2×4 . They want to support the action , and the resolution , because it is in the G.O.P. ‘ s political D.N.A. . it is not in the Dems , but it is in the Republican ‘ s , however .

.. Ironically , Nunes is offering his support FOR the resolution , and for the operation . However , he is also putting POTUS on point . He has to take responsibility for his actions , and for his decisions . Recruiting some allies to help would help deal with the situation . W. did it . Other presidents did it . Now , it is Mr. Obama ‘ s turn to do it , and do the heavy diplomatic lifting . It is what is needed to build a coalition . He should call W. ‘ s people , and ask them . Colin Powell was one of them . he knows how tough that it will be . He would be  probably be willing to help , and I  doubt JohnBoy Kerry would object all that much .

.. If necessary , the House G.O.P. will sit on the resolution , until the ObamaCrap White House makes the DemoCraps cough up at least 1/3 , or better yet , a majority of the House Dem caucus . Then , the resolution will move , and it will be similar to the above . What comes naturally to most Presidents is pretty much alien to Obama . He needs , for once , to really understand what leadership really is . He needs to take responsibility for his actions in office , and what will eventually become a significant part of his legacy . Hemming , hawing , and dodging responsibility for one ‘ s acts ain ‘ t it , and it will not cut it . It just will not . POTUS needs to get the message . He will get the support that he needs , and that he desires . It comes with a price .

.. Mr. President , it is time to “Man Up,” for crying out loud !!

… I wanted to Revisit This [Religious Freedom in Business] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,September 5th,2013

.. this is in regards to the small businesses , one in Colorado , and one in Oregon , who are currently under fire for exercising their religious beliefs .

.. I wanted to bring in this quote from the one article …
“Religious freedom is a fundamental right in America and it’s something that we champion at the ACLU,” said Mark Silverstein, the

English: The Bill of Rights, the first ten ame...

English: The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution Česky: Originál Listiny práv, prvních deseti dodatků k Ústavě Spojených států amerických Deutsch: Die Bill of Rights genannten ersten zehn Zusatzartikel zur US-amerikanischen Verfassung, die den Bürgern bestimmte Grundrechte garantieren Español: La Carta de Derechos de los Estados Unidos, el término por el que se conocen las diez primeras enmiendas de la Constitución de los Estados Unidos de América (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

legal director of the group in Colorado, which filed the complaint last year on behalf of Mullins and Craig. “We are all entitled to our religious beliefs and we fight for that. But someone’s personal religious beliefs don’t justify breaking the law by discriminating against others in the public sphere.”

.. Someone should remind the AntiChrist Lunatics Union that our religious beliefs are religious liberties , enshrined in the U.S. Constitution . Also , in the Bill of Rights , in the 1st Amendment , as regards the freedom of religion and religious practice . Exercising those religious beliefs in public is not discrimination , and does not discriminate against others . People are freely exercising their religious beliefs , and that does not stop in  the business sphere .

.. Those idiots keep on enacting those so – called “human rights” laws , and imposing their socialist acts on us all . They should remember , those laws are only laws , and they are not constitutional amendments . The law is subservient to the constitution , and those “so – called sexual orientation” laws are unconstitutional .

… Bye , Bye , Linc !! …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,September 5th,2013

.. it appears that Governor Lincoln Chaffee [I-RI] has withdrawn from politics , and will not run for a 2nd term . Good riddance !

.. Sonny Boy could not hold his father ‘ s jock strap . John Chaffee was a loyal Republican , albeit a loonie liberal , and stayed liberal

throughout his political career . However , he also remained a loyal Republican . He was often either a Committee Chairman , or a Ranking Member , and led , even though , sometimes , the position was in contravention to his beliefs , because that it was in the interests of the G.O.P. . Sonny Boy was far from that .

.. Sonny Boy was elected Governor , after losing his U.S. Senate Seat . He managed to do that by winning a three-way race for his governor ‘ s seat . Sonny was still an independent , even though he switched into the DemoCrap party .

.. Guess what was going to happen ? You guessed it … Linc was going to lose in the Primary . Oh , well . Or , he was  likely going to lose in the general election . A Democrat or an Independent losing a governor ‘ s election in the state of Rhode Island would be roughly akin to a 9.0 political earthquake . Especially if the loss was to a conservative Republican .

.. Bye ,  Bye , Linc  !! ..

… These Small Proprietors should Counterattack [Religious Rights being overrun by “Human Rights” laws]

Posted by paulfromwloh on Thursday,September 5th,2013

.. these companies are being set upon by so – called “Human Rights” laws . Basically , these laws are imposing a secular code of humanist justice upon those of us who are believers , and our religious beliefs are being thoroughly trampled upon . This is the height of outrageous .

.. Those local and state bodies should remember that the great mass of the people are those who are religious believers . We are all of different faiths , but of one common set of beliefs . Those beliefs are spelled out in the individual rights set out in the Bill of Rights . They include , but are not limited to , our religious faith . Just because one goes into business in the common public sphere , does not limit one ‘ s ability to practice one ‘ s faith .

.. These so  – called “human rights” laws  have marched waaaaay over the line .  Many folks who are involved in this are pro – family and pro – traditional marriage . They believe that it should be limited to between one man and one woman . They should not and must not have their rights to religious freedom and freedom of property limited because they do not believe in so – called “same – sex marriage . ” These idiots are trying to impose their humanist beliefs on others , and it goes way beyond the pale of constitutionality .

.. The pro – family and pro – marriage forces should counterattack . There are laws limiting the infringement of civil rights , and usually they are put to use to the loonie left . Guess what ? They apply to everyone , and the Loonies are going to have to be made to find that out the hard way . Either there is religious freedom for all , or there is no religious freedom at all . Our constitution and the Bill  of Rights should still mean something .

.. these are links (ironically , to the Huffington Post) about a small local cake bakery who was forced to close because of their religious beliefs . They believe in the traditional  definition of marriage , and do not believe that they should be penalized for doing business in public , and remaining faithful to their religion . They believe that they can do both . They should and hopefully will fight back … [link1] … [link2]

… Congratulations to a Future Saint …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,September 4th,2013

.. that is his late holiness , John Paul II .

… from NewsMax …

John Paul’s Canonization Date Set

Edward  Pentin

Pope John Paul II will be canonized on April 27 next year, a top Vatican  source has told Newsmax exclusively.
Although the Vatican has not officially confirmed the date, Pope Francis  has already let it be known in a private conversation that

... a future saint !! ...

… a future saint !! …

the Sunday after  Easter is the date he wants for the ceremony.

When asked by an official close to the Pope’s inner circle whether a date had been set, Francis responded with a laugh and replied: “I can tell you now if you like! It will be April 27.”
The source told Newsmax: “I was surprised by his frankness, but he took a  step back, laughed and then [said] the date. He was surrounded by top officials  who didn’t seem to mind.”
Among those within earshot was Archbishop Georg Ganswein, prefect of the  Pontifical Household, who will be partly responsible for organizing the  canonization ceremony.
Pope John XXIII, who was pontiff from 1958 to 1963 and convened the Second  Vatican Council, is also expected to be canonized on the same date.
The Vatican is expected to make an official announcement on Sept. 30 when a  consistory of cardinals will formally approve the canonization date.
During a papal press conference on his return from Rio de Janeiro July 28,  Pope Francis said both Popes will be canonized “together,” but said it was  unlikely the canonizations would take place during the autumn or winter as many  Poles will be traveling to Rome for the ceremony  by bus, and the road conditions could be bad.
After speaking with Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, John Paul II’s former  private secretary and archbishop of Krakow, he said two other possible dates  arose: Christ  the King Sunday, which falls this year on Nov. 24, and Divine Mercy Sunday — the  Sunday after Easter — which will be on April 27, 2014.

Pope Francis said he thought there was “too little time” for the  canonizations to take place in November and said he needed to speak with the  person in charge of saints’ causes, Cardinal Angelo Amato. The cardinal said at  the end of August that the date will be officially announced on Sept. 30.

Asked on Tuesday if he could confirm the date, Vatican spokesman Fr.  Federico Lombardi told Newsmax: “The consistory is held precisely in order to  establish and announce the date publicly, so I don’t think it’s correct to say  that the thing is already decided. If it isn’t, we should save ourselves for the  consistory.”
But he added: “We can say that it is very likely, given that the Pope made  an explicit reference to [Divine Mercy Sunday] in the interview on the return  flight from Rio, saying that he realized that in winter, it would be difficult  for pilgrims from Poland and countries of Central and Northern Europe to attend,  and so it was better to postpone until the spring.”
Divine Mercy Sunday is a special day for John Paul, who established the  feast day in 2001. Its origins  date back to Polish nun Faustina Kowalska, who had a devotion to the Divine  Mercy after an encounter with Jesus.
In visions and conversations with Jesus, Kowalska, who lived from  1905-1938, said Jesus asked her specifically for a feast of Divine Mercy to be  established so mankind would take refuge in Jesus.
John Paul II died on the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday in 2005.
The theme of mercy is also central to the pontificate of Pope Francis, who  has frequently said, “This is the time for mercy.” Vatican spokesman Father  Federico Lombardi told Vatican Radio July 30 that Francis has “great  effectiveness in helping people understand the theme of God’s love and mercy,  which reaches out to soothe and heal the wounds of humanity.”
Pope Francis signed a decree July 5 that gave the go-ahead for the  canonizations of both John Paul II and John XXIII. Usually two miracles  attributed to a candidate’s intercession are required to become a saint. A  French nun, who was inexplicably cured of Parkinson’s disease, led to John Paul  II’s beatification on May 1, 2011.
A second miracle, which must occur after a beatification, involved a Costa  Rican woman who was cured of a cerebral aneurysm the very day of John Paul II’s  beatification.
For John XXIII, Pope Francis took the rare step of waiving the requirement  of a second miracle, paving the way for his canonization.
Many are rejoicing at the speed at which John Paul II — whom many chanted ‘santo subito!’ (Saint now!) at his death — is being canonized. They see this as  a further testament to his holiness, but some are uneasy at the haste of the  process.
Often it can take centuries between the death of a person with a reputation  for holiness and their canonization. But for John Paul II’s cause for  canonization, the process was partially expedited after pressure was placed on  Benedict XVI to waive the usual five years between a candidate’s death and the  opening of their cause. Benedict agreed to the waiver in May 2005.
When the late Polish pontiff is elevated to altars on April 27, it will  have been only nine years and 25 days since his death.
… LEC here — It is a honour well deserved . I would bet that April 27th will become Saint John Paul II day . It should be solo  , but will not be , because other saints will share it . Oh , Well . May God in Heaven bless Saint John Paul II !! …

… Quit being a Damn Wuss , POTUS …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,September 4th,2013

.. for God ‘ s Sake , the red line is your creation . Quit trying to squirm out from under it . The so – called “international community” is a joke . All they have is their interests at stake . Do they really have this interest in common ? They should , or should act like it . However , they do not , and are not acting like it . They are acting like a bunch of lily – livered wussies , trying to hide under the nearest rock .

.. the so – called “international law” is not a totalitarian imposition upon this nation . It is a set of common interests , beliefs , and laws , acting through agreements and treaties . Remember , in any agreement , especially this nation , the United States has always reserved the right to act unilaterally , and in its own interest . We should act like it , and not hide our heads under a rock .

.. If the prohibition against the use of chemical , biological , or nuclear weapons is to have any meaning , then when a bad actor does use them , then make sure you find a way to punish them . Otherwise , you risk the very real possibility of having those damn things being used against yourself . It does not always mean military action . It could be economic action , social shunning , economic sanctions , or even diplomatic isolation . If those actions fail , then  military  action may well be necessary . It also takes courage , as well as leadership , Mr. President .

.. It is time that you show some courage , POTUS . It is time to take a stand . I am not all that confident in your ability to lead us . Also , what are the goals of the operation ? Be honest , because you cannot guarantee that there will not be “boots on the ground . ” Those folks are our fellow citizens , and those of our allies . Their lives should not be thrown away , or spent in a vain exercise in political grandstanding . What are our nation ‘ s interests in this ? Why ? Those questions are needed to be answered , and as soon as possible .

.. I am an internationalist . I am most definitely not an isolationist . I believe that we likely will need to take military action in Syria . It is a precursor to what is likely to come up in terms of Iran . If the mullahs in Qum had not stepped up , Assad and his cronies would have gotten the “Mussolini treatment” by now . They are very much alive , unfortunately . Over 1,500 of his fellow Syrians , though , are not . They have been murdered , by gas attack .

.. Quit beating around the bush . Especially Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] . He is a former KGB Colonel , and knows what the use of chemical weapons is like . So did Adolph Hitler . It was why there was no chemical weapons used in Europe in World War II . Hitler knew well what would follow . So should Assad . I am not wild about Francois Hollande (France) . He is almost as big a wuss as is our POTUS  . At least Hollande and the French are stepping up . So will the Arab League , once POTUS quits messing around .

.. Dealing with this issue is one of national importance to any nation state . It should make any major political party think twice about the normal political “screwing around . ” Yea , that applies here in the U.S. . A judgement on this issue should be made on our nation ‘ s interest , not that of our party , or another . The typical partisanship should not apply . It also applies to the ObamaCraps . Get the O.C. political operators out of there . They are not necessary , and will unnecessarily heat things up , and for the wrong reasons .

.. What Ed Milliband (the Labour leader) evidently did in the U.K. really stinks . At least PM Cameron ‘  s coalition partners (the Liberal Democrats) were upfront and honest about it . Labour was not . Evidently the great mass of Labour was going to support the Government , and vote in favour of military action . Then Milliband flipfloped , and the motion went down . Labour should be shamed into returning , and voting in favour of the motion . British interests are at stake , as well as American . Labour should be ashamed of itself . Miliband should resign .

… Israel is testing a New Arrow Defense System …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Wednesday,September 4th,2013

.. Israel is not stupid .

.. Considering what Syria has “under the hood , ” the Israelis are being prudent .

.. Israel has multiple layers of defense . Their intelligence system is second to none in the world . If the Syrians are crazy enough to even think of launching missiles against Israel , the Mossad will have at least some idea of what is coming , and when . The I.D.F. is virutally second to none in national defense .

.. If Syria is even thinking of launching one missile at Israel , Israel will retailiate , and very strongly . PM Netanyahu may well listen to most U.S. Presidents , but , does anyone think , considering their recent history , that Netanyahu will take anything more than a prefunctory phone call from Obama . Any Syrian missile may well  have either a chemical or biological warhead on board . If it does , a full retaliatory strike is likely , no matter what POTUS thinks or says . PMs of Israel will listen to U.S. presidents , but they must have their country ‘ s interests at heart , not America ‘ s .

.. This missile system is something new , I believe . If it had to , Israel could finish the job on the missile system , and produce it on its own . If it had to , it could finance it surrepticiously , whether the U.S. wanted it to , or , not . take a look at the tape link for yourself , and see what you think … [link]

High School ‘Art Project’ Asks Students to Stand on American Flag

Posted By Rick Moran

A high school art teacher recreated an exhibit by a revolutionary Communist from 1989 that has the entire town of Paducah, Kentucky, up in arms.

Fox News report:

Students at a Kentucky high school were encouraged to step on an American flag that had been placed on the floor as part of an art display, outraging parents and students.

The display at McCracken County High School, was a re-creation of “Dread” Scott Tyler’s 1989 installation titled “The Proper Way

... how disgusting and disgraceful is this ?!?! ...

… how disgusting and disgraceful is this ?!?! …

to Display an American Flag.”

A photograph shows a music stand on top of the flag that had been placed in a hallway, in a story first reported by Kathleen Fox, a reporter with The Paducah Sun.

As part of the art exhibit, students were encouraged to stand on the flag and write their reflections on how they felt standing on the flag.

Local residents filled social networking sites with their outrage over the flag desecration with many calling for the art teacher to be fired.

“The teacher should be fired and run out of town,” wrote one outraged Paducah resident. “I have a son serving to protect this flag at this very moment.”

“It is a sad day when the symbol of this great nation is relegated to occupy the floor,” a reader wrote. “It is a truly sorrowful day when the one who placed it there has the nerve to ask, ‘How does it make you feel?’”

“I doubt this teacher intended the disrespect her art project exhibited,” one reader wrote. “But nonetheless, it was really a despicable assignment.”

Art teacher Shand Stamper has since apologized for the controversial art display – telling The Paducah Sun that it was not a specifically assigned project. The newspaper reported she sent a written letter of apology to school administrators.

“I love our flag and the nation it stands for. I love the freedom I enjoy because of our brave veterans. I feel sick and deeply sad that through my actions I have dishonored these men and women and also poorly represented you all,” she wrote in a letter obtained by the newspaper. “(To say) I am devastated by my actions bringing outrage and negativity on you is a gross understatement.”

It turns out that this exhibit is rather famous — in some artistic quarters. Dread Scott Tyler, a self-described revolutionary Communist, created it when he was a student at the Art Institute of Chicago. What deep thoughts attended this artistic gem?

I made some forays and experiments into installation work for audience participation because I wanted to do artwork people couldn’t just dismiss the politics of. Whether they liked it or didn’t like it, whether they agreed with me or didn’t agree with me, I wanted them to have some engagement with the work. So even if they thought, “this guy’s a real assh*le and he has no clue what he’s talking about,” I wanted them to be very much bound up with saying, “this guy’s a real assh*le and he has no clue what he’s talking about.” And have that be part of the work. I started doing these works that had photo montages on the walls, and encouraged people to take a copy and explain why they chose to take it in the book below. So it was this participatory piece. I started doing these, and I kind of thought they were successful.

Yes, Mr. Tyler. You’re a real assh*le and don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

Mr. Tyler’s masterpiece was condemned by President George H.W. Bush, who called it “disgraceful” on the floor of the Senate. And it became the catalyst for flag-desecration legislation. All this must have been heady stuff for a 24-year-old commie.

So why did this execrable display make a re-appearance in Paducah, Kentucky? The teacher’s excuse — that it wasn’t “a specifically assigned project” — could mean anything. If she was trying to say something about freedom of speech, she could have easily chosen a less controversial, less outrageous example. Indeed, Mr. Tyler may be a commie, the teacher may be a dolt, the school principle may have a hole in his head — but that doesn’t negate the fact that the display is a form of speech and therefore protected by the U.S. Constitution.

And then Principal Michael Ceglinski filled the hole in his head and did something outstanding:

Administrators held a ceremonial flag retiring ceremony for the American Flag at the center of controversy at the McCracken County High School. It caught the attention of two students who taped an arts project Monday. It also caught the attention of James Courtney, a Vietnam Veteran.

“I wanted to be sure it was done right,” he said.

He joined a handful of other veterans outside the school. Courtney says he was appalled to learn the flag he fought for would end up on the ground. “Anything that happens to the flag, that’s not right, a piece of you is with it,” Courtney said.

Principal Michael Ceglinski says it’s important for students to know one of the ways to properly retire the flag. “Turn something positive into it by the learning experience of our kids,” he said.

The flag was cut and grouped by color – then placed in a burn barrel. Ceglinski said he hopes parents and students understand the school is doing the right thing. “We wanted to make sure that we ended this in the right way. It obviously got started on the wrong foot,” he said.

Free speech is a very dangerous thing. It has toppled dictators, ended oppression, stopped wars, and inspired entire populations. It also makes fools out of art teachers and school administrators.

At least in this case, all’s well that ends well.

LEC again — how short are our memories . I remember when this was first done in the late 1980s . Man , was there one hell of an uproar over the desecration of the flag . There are many ways to display it . Descecrating it on the floor is definitely NOT one of them .

… Senator Rand Paul [R-Ky] to SecState JohnBoy …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. U.S. Senator Rand Paul [R-Ky] sharply criticized Secretary of State John Kerry for his statement that President Obama had the constitutional authority to order military intervention in Syria, telling him that if the U.S. Congress voted down authorization but Obama acted anyway, he would be “making a joke of us” and this would be mere “constitutional theater.” [link]

PAUL: Make me proud today, Secretary Kerry. Stand up for us and say you’re going to obey the Constitution, and if we vote you down, which is unlikely by the way, but if we do, you would go with what the people say through their Congress and you wouldn’t go forward with a war that your Congress votes against. Can you give me a better answer, Secretary Kerry?

KERRY: I can’t give you a different answer than the one I gave you. I don’t know what the president’s decision is, but I will tell you this. It ought to make you proud because he still has the constitutional authority, and he would be in keeping with the Constitution.

PAUL: Well, I disagree with you there. I don’t believe he has the constitutional authority. I think Congress has this. Madison was very explicit. When he wrote the Federalist Papers, he wrote that history supposes, or the Constitution supposes what history demonstrates, that the Executive is the branch most likely to go to war and therefore the Constitution vested that power in the Congress. It’s explicit and runs throughout all of Madison’s writings. This power is a Congressional power and is not an Executive power. They didn’t say big war, small war. They didn’t say boots on the ground, not boots on the ground. They said declare war. Ask the people on the ships launching the missiles whether they’re involved with war or not. If we do not say the Constitution applies, if we do not say explicitly that we will abide by this vote, you’re making a joke of us. You’re making us into theater, and so we play constitutional theater for the president. If this is real, you will abide by the verdict of Congress. You’re probably going to win. Just got ahead and say it’s real and let’s have a real debate in this country and not a meaningless debate that in the end you lose and say, ‘Oh well, we had the authority anyway, we’re going to go ahead and go to war anyway.’

… Senator Ron Johnson [R-Ws] to SecState JohnBoy Kerry (in hearings)

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. what are we doing ? and , why ?

.. Secretary of State John Boy Kerry was testifying today in front of the United States Senate Foreign Affairs Committee , attempting to make the case for intervention in Syria . Yes , intervention in Syria . At least John Boy was being a fair bit more honest .

.. Sure , he was hemming and hawing . He was still trying to play the old political game of “pin the Tail on the Donkey ” …on Congress . But , he was not doing all that well at it . Not that either the DummyCraps or the G.O.P. were shying away from the topic . Far from it . They want the ObamaCrap Administration to step up and make the case . Which , so far , the ObamaCraps have done a piss poor job of doing .

.. See for yourself , as JohnBoy tries to answer U.S. Senator Ron Johnson [R-Ws] ‘ s questions on the subject at hand … [link] …

… Penn State ‘ s NCAA penalty should be altered …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. What has mattered most , has been changed . The wins have been vacated . JoePa ‘ s record has been changed . His reputation has been forever stained . Jerry Sandusky has been convicted at a criminal trial , and that judgement has been upheld at appeal . Thankfully , the University will be able to reach reasonable settlements with those young people who were harmed by Sandusky ‘ s actions . Was it enough ?

.. All the good that he did was not ruined , though . It was not just the money that JoePa raised for PennState and for scholarships . He had set a strong moral example throughout his career . That part was effectively ruined . The selfless parts were not .

.. Has PennState been punished enough . The stiff financial penalties are tough , to be sure (a $60 million fine , paid over 5 years , along with the bowl ban , and revenue restrictions) .

.. The scholarship limits on the program , though , are I think far too much . The other penalties are stiff . PennState ‘ s reputation has been forever altered . The civil settlements act as an added penalty against the Penn State student body . The University and its athletic program have been punished enough .

.. Penn State ‘ s football scholarship limits should be changed . Last year ‘ s reductions , and this years , should count . One more year would be fair . Not two more , after this year . Especially not 4 years , starting after this year . That is waaaaaay beyond the pale .

… Nidal Hasan & the Death Penalty …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. Well , he has gotten his just desserts . This pile of sub – human scum has received the penalty that he deserved , the death penalty . The verdict was unanimous on all 13 counts for which he could have received it . Which is poetic justice .

.. Instead of going to heaven , this bastard is stripped of his military rank . He now has no military rank at all . With an officer , such as Hasan , it is different . He will be imprisoned even though he has been now dismissed from the military service . With an enlisted man (yes , a man ) such as Bradley Manning , you are still in the service . Hasan is not .

.. He will not go to heaven . He will rot in hell . Which is exactly what he deserved . No heavenly virtue . No 72 virgins . None of that . None of that at all .

… POTUS should recall Congress …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. not yesterday . not two days ago . Now !

.. If the potential of an attack on Syria is important enough that he would seek Congressional authorization , then he should act to recall Congress . He should recall them without delay …

POTUS should recall Congress

.. I do not think that he has the guts , but he should take the lead .

.. When you give the orders to engage the military , you cannot assume that things will be simple . They never are . You take an action to send in missiles , and then someone else will react . You cannot anticipate their reaction . Especially with the current crowd , you really cannot be sure how other countries will react .

.. POTUS also has to act to make the case . Congress will act to support him . They are not a bunch of wussies , unlike him . They will act to support him . It takes courage and leadership , neither of which this current administration has exhibited . It also takes trust . The ObamaCraps have a real problem with the trust thing . They may have the powers and the duties of the office , but they are not really all that trusted with them .

.. POTUS should remember that he is just the head of one of three co – equal branches of government . POTUS is not a dictator . Just because he says boo , things do not happen automatically like people are a bunch of automatons . He has to lead .

.. There will be a debate . Sooner would be preferable to later . Before the act would be definitely preferred to after the act . The debate will come , like it or not . Honesty is preferrable . Do not lie about things . Just do not let things all hang out , either .

… I am Amazed (How Many People are BellyAching about O.C.C.) …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

.. How many People are bellyaching about OCC

.. We are assured that OCC was wanted by all , that it was the cure to all of the nation ‘ s health care ills , that hyper government regulation would help control health care costs .

.. Guess What ? Riiiiiiiiight .

.. So many people are bellyaching right now that the unpopularity of O.C.C. grows by the day . Unions of many stripes , in particular , in the private sector , do not care for the changes that it portends . Even Rich Trumka , the old socialist turned leader of the AFL – CIO , is none too wild of O.C.C. , but even for his own reasons .

.. Well , they wanted this guy as our President . One who was and still is wholly unqualified for the office and the responsibilities that come with it . They voted for a Congress that was , at the time , very strongly controlled by the Democrats . Even the Senate had a filibuster – proof margin . Yet , they still had all sorts of trouble passing the bill .

… POTUS should understand the Meaning of a Word [Leadership] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

… in this case , leadership

.. if he wants to build or gain popular support for an issue , it does not grow on a tree . It does not happen because he says so . It happens because he takes the initiative on an issue , and leads . You do not build popular support for an issue by putting your finger to the wind , and “whistle dixie”

.. POTUS obviously wants popular support behind his possible decision to initiate potential military action against Syria . However , it is not Syria that is , or should be , the real target of the military engagement . It is Iran , pure and simple . Syria is Iran ‘ s ally . Bashaar Assad would not now be in power except for the military action of Iran , and the diplomatic and military weakness and inaction of the ObamaCraps .

.. Obama has to lead . He has to quit playing games on the issue , and lead . He should , ideally , call back Congress . He should not do so , first , without trying to build some sense of popular support . Then , bring them back . Congress will back him . The Congresscritters and Senators are not chickens , nor are they weak . He is . It is time for him to stop being weak and indecisive , and lead .

The Iranians are not stupid . They may want to make us look bad . These days , that is done easily enough . But , they know that they cannot stand up , directly or indirectly , to the complete military strength of the United States . It is our own National Command Authority (Obama) that is the weak point . He is a very profound weak point .

… Congress Should Return to D.C. [Now] …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

Congress should Return to D.C.

.. god knows that there is enough work to do . ObamaCrapCare being the chief problem , among them . The Budget is another . There are others .

.. There is also the potential of military action in the Middle East . Yes , yet again . The debate should not be limited just to Syria , however . Syria is but a puppet . The mullahs in Qum (Iran) are the puppetteers .

.. Assad and his cronies would not still be in power , except for the financial and military support of Iran . Syria is also a critical choke point in Iran ‘ s foreign policy , as well . Hizbullah would be lost , without Iran . They are a chief pain in the backside for Israel . Hamas is another . Same cause . Both rely on support from Qum , and would be lost without it . Ditto Sudan .

.. Sudan is in even a weaker a position . With the diplomatic weakness of the ObamaCraps , the goons in Khartoum can behave like bullies , especially towards South Sudan . In this case , Sudan also has the indirect support of China . However , a decisive move by the U.S. and the Europeans to stop it would effectively push the Chinese away . Sudan is too far from home , and too close to Europe . China is not stupid , and is also not yet strong enough as a naval power to project that kind of military power that far from home , almost in the backyard of one of its chief adversaries , India .

.. Iran would not be stupid enough to push for a direct challenge . But , they could do so around the edges . Obama is a wus . He does not understand the real meaning of the word power . If he did , Iran would not play around the way that they do .

.. Congress needs to defend its institutional prerogatives . POTUS is the Commander – in – Chief . Congress , though , declares wars , and pays the bills . The House of Representatives should not let itself be run over and played like a chump . It should act , and , if necessary , come back on its own . If it did , the Senate would be forced to follow suit .

.. Each chamber is in control of the opposite party . But the two chambers should act , for once , to defend the legislature ‘ s turf where it has it in evaluating and setting foreign policy . To not do so is misfeasance in office .

… What Do You Think of Him Now [Snowden] ?? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Tuesday,September 3rd,2013

What do You All Think of Him Now ?

.. People have praised the actions of Edward Snowden . They have called him a hero . A whistleblower . They have called him many things . But , they have not called him what they should have called him , truthfully …

.. A Traitor .

.. Yes . A Traitor . It is that plain and simple . With my current case of internet interruptus , I cannot see the latest h – bombshell from the Washington ComPost . It seems that they have published a story , evaluating the actual “black budget” from Congress on the Intelligence Community .

.. Yea , it is a honey . It literally shows the “crown jewels” of the U.S. intelligence assets . What is done and spent where , and how . Evidently , why , as well . What our strength are , and what our weaknesses are . The ComPost has it all . They just have not published it all . Yet .

.. People still think that Snowden is a hero . I do not . I never did . The damage that he has done to our country , and to those people who are fighting the good fight defending us from threats unseen is enourmous and incalculable .

[-] Snowden

.. An operation must be mounted to find Snowden . The Russians have to know this . They know what he knew . And Snowden knew waaaaaaay too much as it is . If the op has to be mounted into Russia , so be it . The threat must be eliminated . As long as Edward Snowden lives , he and his actions present a clear and present danger to this nation and to the world .

[-] Our nation

.. How the hell could this much info have gotten into the hands of an intelligence company contractor . How did someone with this kind of background get any kind of security clearance in the first place ? Why was not better care taken with critical information , and why was it not placed in better places to better protect it ?

… How has Obama been Exposed by His Lack of Seriousness in Syria (and the Middle East) …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 2nd,2013

How has Obama been Exposed by His Lack of Seriousness in Syria (and the Middle East)

[-] Inability to make the Case — POTUS has not made the case to the public , or to its elected representatives (Congress) . If you are going to ask for public support , you need to persuade . Obama has not done that , at all . If he wants a positive vote in Congress , he is going to have to do the spade work . Not his flunkies . He has to do it , himself .

[-] Lack of Trust — Other presidents , in particular , Clinton were not liked . Yet , they could be trusted , at least to a point . Virtually every POTUS has been trusted . Obama is not . He is not trusted , and with good reason . He has not earned it , nor garnered it by making people come to fear him . People do not fear him . People may not have liked W. . But I will guarantee you , they respected him . Most of all , they feared him . He gave you his word , it was his bond . He stuck by it . Obama does not and has not . He is a wuss .

[-] Lack of Leadership — so what else is new . POTUS does not even know the meaning of the word .

[-] Failure to consult Congress. The Obama administration has built no consensus among Congress for any kind of strike. Generalissimo Pelosi wants a strike, but beyond her there is very little appetite for any U.S. action. Democrats are vocally skeptical. Republicans see a replay of Libya, just a couple of weeks before the first anniversary of the deadly attack in Benghazi. Believe it or not , even Dennis Kucinich is starting to make sense. There may be good reasons for striking Syria, but those reasons have not been articulated well or explained to Congress. So Congress in turn cannot explain the policy to their constituents.
[-] Failure to get buy-in from the American people. Obama’s failure to consult Congress until late in the game has probably left him too isolated to gain the approval and build up support. Now, a vote in Congress risks a replay of what happened in the UK Thursday — a down vote. That would be seen as a victory for Assad and Putin from Damascus to Tehran and well beyond, all the way to Caracas, Havana and Pyongyang.

[-] Lack of understanding of National Interests — Senator Obama never understood what our national interest was , and what it was not . POTUS still does not . Senator Obama warned against U.S. military action taken without United Nations approval. That’s a dubious standard — our military is our military, not France’s . POTUS has learned (or is learning, hopefully) on the job that Russia likes to use its Security Council veto power to thwart American aims. Russia’s foreign policy is fundamentally amoral, and fundamentally about advancing its own interests — if it can do so at America’s expense, all the better. Our policy should be about advancing our own interests . If we can screw the Russians or the Chinese or the Iranians , so much the better …

[-] No draft language for the UN to consider. The ObamaCraps have not evidently even drafted any meaningful language for the UN Security Council to consider. Really Dumb . One can use that to put a potential naysayer or adversary on the spot . Such as the Russians . Such language could have been used to put the Russians on the defensive to explain their veto, or at least isolate them, but without any draft language to consider, the UN is effectively useless . .

[-] No military plan, no clear objective. Remember the Powell Doctrine ? What’s the plan for striking Syria, and what’s the plan for the aftermath of a strike? If anyone in the Obama national security team has any idea, they’re not saying. They have leaked and talked about timing and specific targets, but not about much beyond “punishing” Assad. How do you punish a man who is facing sure and humiliating death if he loses the civil war to his enemies, without putting those radical enemies in power? It would take a very deft hand to pull that off. There is no evidence of said deft hand at work in Obama’s Syria policy. In fact, there is no evidence that anyone in Obama’s national security team is thinking deeply at all.

[-] Lack of credible spokes men and women to obtain buy-in from the American people and the press. The faces of Obama’s Syria war policy should not be his former campaign attack dogs. But the faces of the Syria policy so far have been Marie Harf and Jen Psaki at the State Department. Both of them hail from the Obama 2012 campaign. They both have one setting — defend their candidate and ruthlessly attack anyone who questions him. That’s fine for a campaign, but wholly inappropriate for a president leading his nation into what may blow up into a world war. They both come across as the hard-edged campaign operatives that they are, not the serious policy advocates that they need to be. Obama’s 2012 campaign operatives need to be sidelined in favor of career diplomats who have credibility among Democrats and Republicans on the Hill.

.. Now, we seem to be going it alone, and timing our attack to occur before Obama heads off to the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia next week. This isn’t military timing, it’s political timing. The headline talk of an attack is giving the Syrians time to plan their counters more effectively. They can move their targets, place human shields on them, equip Hizballah to threaten or attack Israel, and plan their propaganda following the strike.

… This is stupidity . Incredibly dangerous stupidity .

… Obama is Taking a Huge Gamble (Syria) …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 2nd,2013

Obama is taking a Huge Gamble

He risks an embarassing loss in Congress

.. POTUS is taking a risk by asking Congress to approve airstrikes against Syria.
..The potential payoff is that he’ll win the kind of vote that signals broad popular support, giving him a stronger hand in facing

Bashar al-Assad - Caricature

Bashar al-Assad – Caricature (Photo credit: DonkeyHotey)

Syrian President Bashar Assad and perhaps other dictators later in such regimes as Iran. But there are military and political risks in the process.

.. Militarily, a desperate Assad could use the time to his own desires . Obama could pay an added price while he waits s for a Congressional debate to conclude , one way or the other . It could done in his own nation , or in anouther , possibly turning his nation ‘ s civil war into a much wider regional conflict .

.. Politically, Obama could emerge as a weakened leader . He would then find it far tougher to get anything done at all . Even if he wants to push his proposals through Congress , including his top priorities of passing a budget and rewriting the nation’s immigration laws . You need political gravitas and political capital to do that . POTUS does not have much of either one .
.. But Obama does not rule out acting on his own if lawmakers fail to act. If that happened, he would only further antagonize a divided Congress that already rejects many of his proposals . He does have the legal authority . But not the moral gravitas or moral authority . It could also result in the possibility of his impeachment . Possible , but not likely .

… I am Amazed ; Is POTUS this Shallow ?? …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 2nd,2013

I am amazed ; Is Obama this shallow ?

.. The first rule for President Obama: It’s all about 2014. The second rule for President Obama: See Rule No. 1.

President Barack Obama addresses the House Dem...

… POTUS , the first W.U.S.S. …

.. Make no mistake: The president couldn’t care less about the plight of Syrians, the 1,500 gassed to death — including nearly 500 children. It’s all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.

.. The conventional wisdom is, as usual, wrong. Losing the congressional vote would be an embarrassment for the president, as all the talking heads are still parroting.
.. Keep this in mind: This president knows no way to campaign other than to blame others. He’ll batter Republicans for all of 2014 as obstructionists should they be the reason the effort fails . But the bloviating politicos are also wrong that the “Republican-controlled House” could reject the plan for partisan reasons. It is Democrats who seem most squeamish — and they were the most vocal in demanding their say before intervention in Syria.

.. Still, the entire fiasco has been hard to watch . It has been an “Amateur Hour” indeed. The president declares a “red line,” then sees the Syrian dictator cross it again and again. The Nobel Peace Prize winner declares he’ll take America to war — but only then does he seek partners and only to find a “Coalition of the Unwilling.” The United Nations says no, the Arab League says no, China and Russia say no — even the United Kingdom says no (mainly because Brits did not want to have another U.S.-led war jammed down their throats).

.. Most of all , POOTUS does not and has not made the case for intervention in Syria . If you are going to request the people ‘ s representatives (the Congress) take action , it helps that someone makes the case to take action . For Bosnia , Clinton did . Bush 43 did so for Afghanistan and Iraq . Bush 41 did so for the Persian Gulf . Obama has not , and may not . He is that arrogant .

.. Of course a firm response is the correct action. POTUS has the legal authority , and the constitutional authority . But , what about the moral authority ? And Mr. Obama doesn’t need authority to do so in Syria, just as he didn’t in Libya. While Republican support on the Hill now would help Mr. Obama save face after his “red line” throw-down, striking Syria with a few cruise missiles — however fleeting and ineffectual that would be to the course of its 2-year-old civil war — also would send a signal to the real target: Iran. The question is what message is sent , and tho whom .

.. The GOP may well support POTUS . However , it will require an extensive rewrite of the resolution . And it will require an ability to come to terms with the War Powers Resolution . That’s why, most likely, Republicans will support the president after rewriting the White House’s draft resolution. Now, it is up to Mr. Obama’s own party: Does he still hold sway over Democrats? Will they bend to his will? Many already seem to be running for the hills. And if they don’t, will the president have the temerity to order strikes anyway?

… Obama ‘ s Ego is Getting Too Big for His Britches …

Posted by paulfromwloh on Monday,September 2nd,2013

Obama ‘ s ego is getting too big for his britches

Obama’s proposal seeks broad war power despite vow of limits

.. While President Barack Obama insists he wants only a limited air attack on Syria, his proposed authorization of force would

English: Barack Obama delivers a speech at the...

English: Barack Obama delivers a speech at the University of Southern California (Video of the speech) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

empower him to do much more than that. Congress is likely to impose tighter reins, as lawmakers have learned that presidents are prone to expand on powers once granted…
.. The substantive part of Obama’s proposed authorization of the use of military force, conveyed to congressional leaders over the weekend, contains 172 words. That’s significantly more than either the 1964 Tonkin Gulf Resolution authorizing the Vietnam War or the 2001 resolution authorizing retaliation for the 9/11 terror attacks, two measures that later became notorious for how aggressively presidents used them.

.. The proposed resolution gives Obama a go-ahead to use the military as he “determines to be necessary and appropriate in connection with the use of chemical weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in the conflict in Syria.” Specifically, the president could act to “prevent or deter the use or proliferation” of the weapons or to “protect the United States and its allies and partners” from the weapons.”

.. Obama’s proposed authorization would also allow military action to stop the “transfer to terrorist groups or other state or non-state actors” of the designated weapons. This includes actions involving weapons transfers “within, to or from Syria,” which potentially extends authority to act well outside Syria itself.

.. If it passed the House and Senate, the authorization would meet the domestic U.S. requirements of the War Powers Resolution, as well as give the Obama administration some political cover. It would not, however, necessarily address international legal requirements.

,, When political bodies do provide military authorizations, the resulting actions can grow beyond what some may have originally contemplated. Expect the final resolution to have a fair bit of limitations on it . Other presidents were trusted , whether they were liked or not . Obama is not trusted , and will not be given anything close to a blank check , as much as he might well want one .
.. Trust is earned , not given . Some political leaders earn trust , given their personal or political reputations . Obama is weak , and is a wuss . He is not trusted , and has not earned it . For him to earn it , he has to take actions to earn it . He has not done so , as of yet .
